We've asked you what your
favorite franchise is that has appeared on a Nintendo console, and we've also asked what your
favorite games in certain Nintendo franchises are, but we've never asked the deep, dark question: What is your favorite
Nintendo franchise?
Mario, Zelda,
Kirby,
Metroid, Fire Emblem, and the list goes on -- there's so many good ones to choose from that we wonder which one you think is the
absolute best. There's no runner ups, no honorable mentions, it's all or nothing here. So, man up and make a choice!

Yeah, sucks to choose one, but if I have to then Zelda. I felt the most like I was exploring a huge world as a child AND an adult in those games, I felt like I am growing as I played. I love almost all of the others though too, hard choice.

I would have said zelda, but the formula got tired for me. Mario games all the way.
because:
Best DS game
Best Wii game
Second Best N64 game
Top ten GC game
A great Starfox game to change my mind would be nice.

If we're just talking the image macro for this entry, then Metroid beats Donkey Kong hands down.
I've never really enjoyed the DK series, but from what I understand there hasn't really been a noticable Donkey Kong game in a while.
I hated Mario vs Donkey Kong. :\

Well it's a tough choice, I love the exploration of Zelda and Metroid, infact I've really gotten into romhacks lately like Parallel World and Metroid Redesign.
But I'd have to go with Mario, there's something legendary about the platforming franchise that will never die, I can't get enough of Super Mario Bros 1 and 3 lately!

I have to say unequivocally, Zelda. After that, is Metroid.
Some rambling follows, feel free to ignore:
I have one minor gripe w/ the Zelda franchise that they typically don't reference the prior games. It wasn't until the Wind waker that they even acknowledge in a story that there was a previous Hero. Ocarina of time being the very first adventure, and Wind waker being set the furthest into the future.
As for Metroid, will Samus ever meet up w/ a living Choso?
Metroid prime: Good Game.
Prime 2: Echoes: Okay, but just tedious to play through.
Prime 3: So far so good. (playing through right now.)

They acknowledged it multiple times, including at the very beginning of the game.

I don't want to nitpick, but at the end of Metroid Prime, when the portal to the Impact Crater was opened, those who did it technically were living Chozo. They didn't have physical bodies (they transcended them, according to the Lore entries), but they were real Chozo who were still lucid (as opposed to the Chozo ghosts, who technically weren't ghosts, but were insane)

...I'd follow that with Donkey Kong, but really only the first two DKC games were any good.

Although not an "N" franchise, I remember falling in love with Final Fantasy as a kid, playing the first one on my NES, then the third one on my SNES [although technically #4 in the franchise]. I figured it'd stay, all the way. It used to be my favorite, and generally, still is.
I'm hoping that the Wii will generate a nice FF game, not just from the WiiWare.
If not, then I'll trade my fave for the plumber duo.

I would have to agree. The FF series is what got me hooked on gaming and is the only reason I bought the PSone and PS2. I would consider FF 1-6 originally a Nintendo franchise and from 7-now a Sony franchise. I know the originals has been redone over the years and placed on a Sony console but that doesn't count. Besides if you take a look at the differences between the two eras of FF then you will notice how many changes have come about so IMO they are two different worlds.

I know it doesn't run exclusively on Nintendo anymore but I always thought of Castlevania as the best Nintendo franchise.
If I were to pick one that would never (well... I NEVER thought sonic would appear on nintendo) appear on another console, I'd go with the Mario franchise. That includes the Warioware games right?

Zelda went to crap when they made the games 3D, I also hate the childish style they add to the new 2D ones. I've just always hated DK and it's only gotten worse with each new game.
I'd go with Mario since it has more good games than Metroid(which is equally as great).
Kirby and Fire Emblem are too 'second' class to be considered along with the others.

Favorite franchise on a Nintendo system?
Megaman.
But that's not the question being asked here. Although I have played through every Mario and Zelda game and have enjoyed Metroid Prime and Pokemon, I will have to give some love to Kirby. He (it?) is just too damn cute to be considered less than the best.

If we're going strictly for franchises, I'd hafta lean towards Zelda.
However, if I can just say Metroid Prime games, they take the cake. I'm not a HUGE fan of 2-D Metroid games, but I love those Prime games.

I can honestly say that I bought at least one console exclusively to play a Zelda game. (It was a used GameCube, 30 bucks on eBay, when I was still unable to obtain a Wii. But still, it counts.)

Best "Nintendo" Franchise?
I think I would have to break this one up....
Best "Stand Out Nintendo Personality".......Mario.
Best "Spin-off Nintendo Game Franchise"..... Mario Kart.
Best "Nintendo Originated RPG Franchise"....... Final Fantasy (FF on the NES and FF 2 & 3 on the SNES)
Best "Adventure Franchise"........Zelda
Best "Action Gameing Franchise"..........Mega Man (Close second is Battle toads....I loved me so toads. Could you imaging punching the rats with teh wii?)
Best "Strategy Game Franchise".....Ya, nintendo does not do these...seriously...they don't. The only stategy games tha were worth mentioning came from Koei (Romance of the 3 Kingdoms)and I am as afraid of them cutting my throut about the same level as I see team ninja of capcom sneaking up behind me to end this.
It is hard for me to award best overall Franchise to Mario because he has become more of a staple than a franchise player (smash brothers, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Soccer, or whatever). The Idea of "Super Mario Brothers" has lost some of it's luster in my opinion because mario has not grown since SM3.
Therefore the best Nintendo Franchise that I elieve has both grown for today as well as kept its original spirit is...........The Adventures of Zelda. From a top veiw in the legion of zelda and Link to teh past to the side view of Adventures of link and the with the seamless transformation into the 3d relm with Orica in Time and Twilight princess, The Zelda Series has shown that great story lines, game play, and inovations (even windwaker) are greatly appreciated overtime. Great job.

Its a toss up between Pokemon and Zelda. Both got me into nintendo hard enough to want a console, both have their ups and downs.
Pokemon is one of those games you could be stranded on a desert island with and still get fun out of . The amount of time and effort involved in catching them all and building a team can leap into the hundreds of hours, and thats before you take into consideration breeding, shinys and EV/IV training. The formula hasnt changed much over the years but its still pretty compelling, even if the series has yet to top the gold/silver generation in terms of how much there is to do on the one cart.
Of course the downside is having to know someone with the opposite cart to your own or be near wifi to trade or battle.

Fire Emblem. I adore the stories and the gameplay. They're very engaging (for me) and they've been great for Japanese reading practice because there's quite a lot of text in most of the games. The Legend of Zelda would come next for obvious reasons. After that I haven't enjoyed any Nintendo franchises as a whole.

Zelda. I agree that Mario is the face of Nintendo (duh) but I don't get engrossed in his games. The Zelda franchise is very good because of great stories combined with action and puzzles. I've never stayed up all night playing a Mario game but I have playing Zelda. That being said, I hated Majora's Mask, barely played Zelda II, and never played Wind Waker or any of the handhelds after Links Awakening . BUT the original, Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess are some of the greatest games of ALL TIME.

Nintendo makes such a kick a** variety of games that it's almost impossible to compare them to each other, let along pick the best. That said, Metroid is probably my favorite. And to all those sating Zelda is "overrated" or whatever: Zelda is amazing, end of story. That's one of the few things in the gaming world that cannot be disputed with much credibility.
