With the Wii so damn tough to hunt down still, we figured we'd ask how some of you lucky folk to receive one, as well as those of you who already own it, are utilizing it in your holiday celebration. Hit up the poll below and let us know!

playing the Wii would require that it works. After buying one from Circuit City a couple of months ago (and verifying that it worked), it refused to work on Christmas morning.
It looks like it powers up (green light, blue light around disc slot) but you can't insert a disc and the fan isn't spinning.
Amazing how these things can break just by sitting on a shelf.
If anyone reads this and has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Ahh, that's tough luck! If it's not TOO many months ago, it should still be under Nintendo's warranty. Give them a call and see if they can replace or fix it for you (there should be a customer service number included with the Wii documentation, or check on Nintendo.com).

Your Wii is still under warranty, so call up Nintendo. (The warranty for consoles is 1 year, so all Wii's, including launch systems, are if they were registered on Nintendo.com for the extra 90 days).
Also, just check the obvious stuff if you have not done so already, such as making sure the AV cables are plugged in and there is not already a disc in the console.

Zone99, try unplugging the Wii from the AC power at the back. Wait 5 seconds and then plug it back in.
That usually fixes a lot of boot up problems for many people. If that doesn't work, call up Nintendo like Lucy and Sonic suggested. They have really good customer service and will send you a temporary replacment Wii so aren't without a system for too long.

Why isn't there an option that says "No, it's my Wii and there is no chance that my family will get its hands on it" ?

Wait, Rock Band for the Wii? I could've sworn it wasn't on the Wii. Are you sure?

Got the sister Rayman Raving Rabbids and we've had a ball playing that one. My mom, brother, sister and I all gathered around the tv and played it. Got my mom thinking of getting a wii herself in order to work out.

I had an exciting Christmas Eve at my mom's side of the families party. They played dogs2 and Big Brain. Needless to say, they need new games. BTW Big Brain Academy is a good way to finally realize how dense your friends and family are lol.

I got Link's Crossbow Training and the Zapper this morning
Various members of my family spent most of the day playing it.
My Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle, and two (girl) teen cousins all had fun playing it (as well as myself, of course). I really doubt any of them would've enjoyed it nearly as much if it wasn't for the Zapper. I'm not even sure they would've bothered trying it in the first place if it wasn't for the Zapper's appeal.
Surprising my Grandfather did very well playing it and actually spent the most time playing it. In fact, he has actually played it more than I have at this point. He didn't want to give it up!

my family were addicted to my wii back when i first got it last year, but the novelty has kinda worn off and none of them can be bothered with it now. Unlike me they have social lives and would rather go out drinking than play games.
Their loss!

The Wii has been in use non-stop. Took it across state lines on Sunday for one side of the family to play (early Christmas), then the next day got call from the other side of the family, could we bring it with us? It was still in the bag so XMas eve it was played again, then finally Xmas day we had it back to ourselves and I got the Zapper and Ghost Squad and we played like fiends!

The in-laws are savvy enough to have bought a Wii last year - but they have hardly any games, and the Wii is mostly for the grandkids to play. We bought Grandma "Dancing with the Stars" and popped it in for some post holiday meal activity.
After some good-natured cajoling we had three couples playing. All the guys are gamers, but the wives are not. But the wives enjoyed DwtS. It took everyone a dance or two to figure what to do ("What button do I press?" "What's the locomotion?"), but then we were all progressing along nicely.
The wives quickly tired of playing and retreated to the kitchen for gossiping. One guy and his young teen daughter kept playing. She really enjoyed the game and they played for probably an hour, getting several 10s and unlocking several levels.
While the game is definitely not for hard-core MP3 & Zelda devotees. It looks to be a big hit as a casual party game that is appealing to female non-gamers, and can get a group of people laughing at each other. As one of the guys put it: "It's like Guitar Hero, only gayer."
We bought my 4 year old daughter the Disney Princess game. While she's still too young to play on her own, she loves to watch my wife or I play, and she can wield the magic wand a bit. The game is relatively simplistic, but it has the PRINCESSSES!!! So it is a big hit with the little girl. I treat it as a good way to spend time with the kidd-o, and a good rest-time option of something other than throwing in a DVD.
Finally, two of us snuck out of the party and went to play GHIII at a guy's house who got a Wii for Christmas. Fun times. When his wife and kids got home from the party, his 8 year old daughter wanted to play. I had him shift into Easy Practice mode at Slow speed. While she didn't hit many notes, she did enjoy playing, and got to participate. This really impressed me - GHIII is able to be played by people of wildly varying skill-levels.
So that's my Wii Christmas story. For me, the Wii really shined at what I bought it for - a console the family and friends can gather around for an evening of entertainment.
- Jasen.

We had Christmas at the in-laws and I didn't bother bringing it because it would be too much work. I did find the NES they had in the back room and after stealing the AV cables from the VCR I hooked it up. We played some Duck Hunt (did you know you can control the duck with the controller?!) and some Super Mario Bros. I put in mike Tyson's Punch Out and played a little but my wife made me turn it off so we could go home. I guess I should buy it on the virtual console.

Brought it to the in-laws only to find that they had gotten a PS3. The college-age crowd was playing it for about a half hour with nobody really sure how to play some of the games. I then brought out the Wii and soon EVERYONE was playing including 90 year old Oma. It was funny to see the 50-something old adults cheering louder than kids would, although the entire place did erupt when Oma bowled a strike. Not bad considering the left hand was holding onto her walker and the right hand did the swinging!
