Why does this news pertain to you, intelligent and drop-dead gorgeous reader? Well, for one we suspect you have a deep and dark hatred for Bill Gates and his company. Also, this rumor states that Microsoft is working with one of Nintendo's partners to establish this motion-sensing controller.Gyration, a company that Nintendo had worked with in the past to establish what has become the Wiimote, has now begun work with the Redmond-based giant to develop a unique controller for the Xbox 360. And, with the Xbox 360 being the only current-gen console missing motion-based controls, it's likely that Microsoft could be planning to correct this soon.

I dunno even the best games on the Wii don't use them in that inventive of ways look at Mario Galaxy amazing game and motion controls don't really add to it in anyway.

Say whaaaa?
Galaxy couldn't work without motion controls. If you'd rather run around and collect star bits by running up to them or using the second analog stick, knock yourself out. It would absolutely ruin the game by turning it into a massive collectathon, though.
Similarly, if you'd rather go back clunky aiming with an analog stick, go right ahead, too. That would just be torturing yourself, though. Play Metroid Prime 3 or RE4 Wii and then play RE4 PS2/GC or Metroid Prime 1 and tell me again motion controls don't add anything to a game.
As always, yes...you don't NEED motion controls. You also don't NEED analog controls. You could just as well use a track ball or something. It's a simple matter of fitness for purpose.

As has been pointed out, MS (read Bill Gates) is a hypocritical garden gnome who made a big deal out of how Motion Control was a fad (like the record label exec who didn't sign the Beatles because 'guitar groups are on the way out' in 1962) is now eating his freakin' words and coming out with one. But of course MS fans aren't intellgent enough or passionate enough to care what the man says, and are able to rationalize every stupidity on their part to some fake thing that doesn't exist. Basically, Nintendo invented the D-Pad, Motion Control, Mario, Zelda, and Awesomeness and and Microsoft invented losing millions each quarter to try to edge in in a market they don't belong in.

... oh come on people... what the heck is wrong with Microsoft taking some motion sensor action?
What's wrong with other systems moving upward (even if it is a copy) ?
Moving up is moving up.
Besides, they have to move up somehow...
If they just stayed flat, they wouldn't even try to move forward other than space and graphics (and we all know that it's going to take a while, but it is "nearing its end" )...
And for the rest...
Do you guys actually believe that all video games in the future should stay flat?
It's this kind of belief that's the opposite of Wii!
Come on, even Nintendo knew from the very beginning what was going to happen! Everyone would go on the bandwagon and start copying!
Did you actually think Nintendo was so dull they didn't see it coming?!
They knew they were going to start something, and whether or not they were going to end it, they knew video games were finally PUSHED to be a bit more creative! More interactive!!
Sure, this technology isn't knew, but that's just the point! Any idea that makes video games more interactive is a step forward! It doesn't need to be a huge step, it can be small, but darnit! It's there!!!
...
...
...sorry, I was just really proud of what Nintendo was doing for the video game and technology world... and here we are, bashing at signs of improvement from other companies... *sigh*

Microsoft's had motion control since at least 2001:

People need to calm the fuck down and realize Nintendo is far from the first company to bring the waggle and they'll hardly be the last.

Well, Nintendo are the first company to do it in a way that resembles reality, and are the first to capture the imaginations of the world with it, and the first to make anyone but a weirdo like you know about their attempt at motion control. And the Wii is just the last step after games like Yoshi's Gravitation/Wario Ware Twisted/Kirby Tilt'n'Tumble, and etc. So shut up.

Yeah, having seen this at CompUSA when I played games on my comp makes me a weirdo but your raging hardon for Nintendo (as a clear fanboy) for no apparent reason doesn't make you one?
Try and enjoy the games instead of bashing Microsoft (whose done a fantastic job this gen by putting out quality titles) and maybe try enjoying a life instead of being a loser fanboy...
[2001 was based on Amazon's release date of 2002. That's later than I remember, so I checked Wikipedia that verified it came out on 1998, so they must have had the technology by 1997. Try reading the links instead of spewing fanboy shit blindly]

I'm afraid I said 'resembles' reality. And no, I don't think it's weirder to know about the Wiimote than it is to remember Microsoft's 'Sidewinder' Joystick from back when USB was new. That's far geekier. Ask someone on the street and they will know what a Wiimote is unless they live under a rock. You pretty much say you only know what it is from working at a computer store. I didn't mean to imply you were BAD, just uncommon.
The argument isn't who invented it, its who made it popular. If Bill Gates was so innovative he wouldn't have been bashing Motion Controls less than three quarters ago, hoping it would just go away. Boo I say. Why shouldn't I hate the company that destroyed Rare? What did Nintendo ever do to them? Sony tried to screw Nintendo with the CD add on and MS bought out Rare. Nintendo are like total underdogs here and they are mopping up so if you think my 'fanboyism' of backing the least corporate, most innovative company at the expense of its backstabbing competitors, is sillier than your personal opinions, then whatever.

Did Nintendo EVER claim they were using a new technology? No. They just said they'd be using existing technologies in new ways, reaching new markets, which they've done quite well.
I have no problem with MS adopting the controller tech, I just like to point on the hypocrisy of PR. Sony - "everyone will want to get a new job to afford our awesome console", Nintendo - "no, we have no plans for a new DS" (days before the DS Lite was announced), Microsoft - "motion control is stupid, people don't want it".

lol wow.... well, can u blame them? 360 is 2 XBoxs taped together, and the sales will hardly exceed those of the first box. Too bad this controller would not be packed in with consoles, giving it about as much opportunity to have a significant impact as any other accessory sitting on store shelves.

I've got nothing against 360 gamers, just the company. The fact is MS do NOT make games, so insulting the games of XBOX is insulting every 3rd party dev. How can I blame gamers for wanting to play games? I can blame Gates for playing games with us though, and with the industry.

My comment wasn't directed toward you, Troy, but the original article which suggested we all hate Microsoft.
My history with MS in the video game world has been shaky, at best. The original Xbox was hated by me from the moment it was announced as MS's history shows they take over nearly every market they enter, and I was a big enough Nintendo fanboy to be unhappy with that. The Xbox itself turned out decent, but never drew me to bother buying it.
The 360, however, proved to be an extremely well-designed system with a great interface, great controller, great online service, and more. I've been very happy with mine, despite the two red rings of death, and have no unkind words to say about Microsoft overall. Yes, they've been hypocritical at times, but who hasn't? You talk about them describing motion controls as a fad (despite introducing them before Sony or Nintendo with their Sidewinder Freestyle controller), but let's not forget Nintendo's insistence that nobody wanted online gaming. Microsoft stating something's not that big a deal, then seeing the fact that the market disagrees and pursuing it themselves is simply business. It's nowhere near as bad as Sony lying and claiming leaving out rumble was because it interfered with their new functions and was a last-gen function nobody wanted anymore, clearing up their lawsuit, and then supposedly bringing it back due to popular demand.
I love my 360 and, due to its extra abilities and still larger library, I actually do play it more than my beloved Wii. I have no problem with MS making strides to improve their market share as I still don't see it hurting the Wii. When MS tries to actively destroy Nintendo, I'll be upset. Right now they're merely evolving to survive, which is admirable.

To be frank, this is Microsoft's style. They essentially made one brilliant move (to make their OS compatible with all PCs), and have been using the hordes of cash ever since to just throw their weight around, screwing up very often, and fall back on the hordes of cash from Windows
It isn't to say that 360 is a bad system (quite the opposite), but these kind of "cheap tactics" (although its normal for all corporations) are what Microsoft has thrived on since that one brilliant move way back when

Although this will give us wii fanboys, the ability to laugh 2 those ms fanboys that said the wii is for fat ppl and lil kids, this could be a threat for nintendo. Just immagine, 360 has the greatest library, the great xbox live and hi def graphics a harddrive. All those the wii doesn'e have and they'll both have motion sensin. If u wanted 2 buy a video game system which would you pick? wii with just motion sensin and the vc or ms with motion sensin and all that? The only thing that could save the wii is a hard drive and and hi def. Wii would kick ass w/ those 2. Ninty should really consider it.
Come on Ninty, I still believe in u!
