Nintendo games just don't always seem to rake in the high scores bestowed upon games on other systems, but one Wii title this year ran away with all sorts of accolades -- and the year isn't over yet. This time, it's the panel of experts (their words, not ours; your opinions may vary) selected at BBC news weighing in with the top games of the year, and Super Mario Galaxy shows up on three of the four top-three lists. While many of the games we expect appear on the lists (Halo 3, Bioshock, The Orange Box), there are a few surprises as well ... but it's Super Mario Galaxy that shows up most often. Score one for us.

I'm sure I'll get downvoted for saying this but now that I'm about 100 stars into it, I've got to say a few things:
1. The camera flat-out blows. One of the worst cameras I've ever used, and certainly the worst camera Nintendo's ever made. Even the 3D Sonics had better cameras, and those games were known for their bad cameras. It almost ruined the whole game for me.
2. Mario's controls are about as nimble and accurate as a tank. I try to jump in a direction and he just jumps nearly straight up. I try to dodge an attack and instead of *getting out of the way* he just runs in place for a second and gets hit. Plus, I've had times when, for instance, I push "right" and he moves "forward".
3. Just for the record (not an attack on this game, just saying), the crazy 3D gravity flipping and small planets aren't entirely new, they have been done before by the first couple Sonic Adventures.
4. When in the world will Nintendo learn that unskippable cutscenes are a BAD thing???
Don't get me wrong, Mario Galaxy is certainly a good game, and probably one of the better games on the Wii, but I just don't think it's quite so incredibly great like everyone's been saying.

It deserves everything it gets. What a great game. I just finished all 121 stars with Mario and Luigi this morning. I'm going to miss it. Then again, I won't miss those damn purple-coin challenges. I'll probably have nightmares for years to come.

I agree, I just started the purple coins yesterday. They are the only ones I have left to do and I'm having some difficulty with them.
