It was our understanding that you need a computer from four years in the future in order to play PC game Crysis, but it turns out that isn't the case. Some people are playing the game right now, enjoying its lush visuals and other cool stuff that we have no idea about (we are a Wii blog, after all).
Thanks to a handy mod for the game, however, we might just have to set about playing the game ourselves. See, this mod adds full Wiimote and nunchuk functionality, allowing you to utilize the unique features of each peripheral to enhance the Crysis experience. We'd give it a try ourselves, but it would seem we're going to have to track down a spare $1,000 if we're going to be able to do this.
Update: Thanks to commenter Lilinka, we've got the link to the actual mod. For more information and whatnot, hit up here.

I'm not trying to bash the Wii, if that's what you're thinking. I meant that Crysis has lush visuals (wasn't that the general consensus, that the game looks amazing? That's why I said we're a Wii blog, we aren't an authority on PC games). I'm not trying to say the Wii can't produce great visuals, because it definitely can.

Slightly OT, I have a PC rig from 3.5-4years ago that can run the Orange box decently. I've heard a lot about Crysys' HW requirements and that the visuals are awesome (when paired w/ said HW). What I want to know is: Is the actual game any good? I've not seen any in-game footage of this game.

It is a fantastic game. I have a brand new computer and it is one of the games I bought for it. The only problem I have had so far, is the only way to destroy a helicopter is to use missles, and they are so hard to find some times. The helicopters don't stop following you until they are dead (even if you use your cloak or speed abilities). But ya it is a great game, even without the visuals.

Could you provide a link to the actual mod? Searching for Wiisys or Wii Crysis on Google just comes up with a load of bunk; Although thanks for pointing this out, I'll have to take my Wiimotes over to a friends (he has crysis) it might actually make me want to buy it.

Sorry, I only found this via a Google blog search (which gave me the Go Nintendo post). I haven't seen anywhere to download the mod or a place that describes it in more detail than this video.
If anyone finds something, though, let me know. I'll add the info to the post here for others to enjoy.

Randy (and Troy),
The game is actually very good - it starts off like a typical sequel to Far Cry in as much as being on an island and fighting armies of regular soldiers - and it's amazingly beautiful and fun in this stage, what with having special powerups to the suit you're wearing. However, 1/2 the way through things change and the story becomes the main focus instead of the graphics.
The "requirements" for Crysis aren't really all that crazy - I have a 2.4 Ghz AMD single core, 2 gigs of ram, and a 512MB DDR3 video card (my pride and joy) that's not even DX10 capable, and I can run the game fairly decent at medium settings.
But as for the game, I'd rate it among the top of the year, up there with Bioshock and Call of Duty 4.
-m.

QUICK TO MY NEAREST COMPUTER STORE FOR THE BLUTOOTH WIRELESS ADAPTER! I am really tempted to get one now after seeing this. I own Crysis and it is fun, but with the Wiimote and with actual pointing, oh I want one. But I am afraid it will end up being stupid, or something will mess up, and I don't get much money. If anyone else tries this, please tell how good it is.

Be wary what bluetooth receiver you get, as the one I got at Radioshack didn't actually come with a bluetooth stack that would run in Windows XP, much less Vista (which doesn't natively support the vast majority of bluetooth devices at this moment)
Plus, BlueSoleil is outrageously overpriced and not that good of a stack, but it's the only one I have gotten to connect to a Wiimote successfully. I'm pretty sure you can find guides somewhere on the internet, when I'm not groggy, sleep deprived, and hung-over I'll get around to posting some for you.

I assume you mean $1000 for a PC upgrade. I don't know what kind of rig he was running it on there, but those were not the mind-bending gfx I was expecting.
One hopes the actual download will be closer to $20. =)
A commercially developed GlovePIE alternative might make put Revolutionary back on a weekly schedule. Huzzah!

Of course the graphics won't be grand, you gotta remember, he's running Crysis -and- FRAPS at the same time, I have a SLI setup with dual 8800s and FRAPS slows -World of Warcraft- down.
