The Wii edition of Guitar Hero III has had some sound issues, which even led to a class action lawsuit against Activision. The company, however, has been working on a re-mastered version of the game that will include Dolby Pro Logic II, as it was meant to in the first place. Owners of the game will have the opportunity to swap out their disc for the fixed one at no cost. But, when will these replacement discs be ready? While Activision hasn't come out with that information yet, you can make sure that you're one of the first to know by pre-registering for one. Check here for details on who to call, or you can sign up to be notified by email instead (although you have to register for a free account at the website first).
Of course, if that sounds like too much of a hassle, you can always check back here for future updates.

I don't see why Nintendo couldn't open up the Wii Shop service for the purposes of downloading a patch.
They should either do that, or create a Patch-specific window, and then fix the problems with Raving Rabbids 1.

I just called the number in the post. I gave them my name, address, phone, and e-mail. The agent stated that in 10-14 days, Activision will send out a pre-paid return envelope to return the current disc to them. From then, in another 10-14 days, they will send out a new disc (presumably with stereo sound). No additional cost, as stated.
Sounds like this will keep me from playing GHIII for a few weeks.

I just called them. Same here 10 to 14 days and then another 10 to 14 days. Not bad. This seems to be overlooked but really interesting if this story turns out to be true. Downloadable content is coming in the next couple of months! Which means that nintendo should be announcing a hard-drive or sd card or something to hold all the new gh3 songs brought off of wiiware. Here's the link: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/12/10/wii_guitar_hero_3_getting_dlc_fixed_sound/1

Also the call to activison was pretty painless. I really don't mind getting a fixed disc. Heck I'm not paying for it. Anyways activitson isn't just to blame. Nintendo had issues with Super Paper Mario in the UK and had to send another disc out. If you think about gaming has come a really long way but there are still glitches. In fact I think glitches are sometimes neat. Since you could in one way think of a glitch copy being collectible since it may become rare compared to a glitch free copy of the game. But hey at least it's not like Microsoft with a 33% failure rate on the 360's that ended up costing them a 1 billion dollars to fix and add warranties to make sure that if you system still ends up breaking down they will fix it and it takes almost a month to get your system back. Yikes! I wonder if nintendo had that happen to all those wiis!(That may be a reason it's taking so long to get wii's out quality over quanity). But just have patience it's not like guitar hero 3 doesn't work. I mean for me the online play works really well. No lag. Pretty flawless for being free. The game plays flawlessly and my controller works just fine like a ps3 or 360 gh3 controller so overall sound was the least of my worries when I started playing gh3 on the wii. I'm just it glad works. Anyways I don't have a 5.1 surround system.

i called and got the same spiel about the envelope coming and mailing back the product.
one note - you can request to be emailed when the new discs are available, that way you don't have to send your current disc so quickly.
second note - it appears the audio for the entire disc needed to be remastered. that's not something that can be fixed with a simple downloadable patch. you're talking about a disc that doesn't have the complete audio, something a patch wouldn't be able to remedy, unless i'm wrong and don't understand the logistics of putting audio on a game disc.

They never told me they'd send an envelope. I was told I'd be informed when there is more information.
