And here we thought no new playable characters were going to get revealed, what with the game only weeks away and all. But, that is not the case, as Olimar from Nintendo's Pikmin joins the roster today. As you'd imagine, he utilizes the small creatures from the game in which he stars as his allies in combat, dependent upon them for a lot of his attacks, including his Final Smash.
Check out some screens of Olimar in action below.

Hopefully this means Nintendo has not forgotten this series. I would so love to see a Wii game for this series.
Obviously all scales are being defied now, though, as Olimar and the Pikmin are not much shorter than Mario. If I recall correctly, Pikmin were pretty tiny...

They've defied scale from the start, Kirby is supposed to be 8 inches tall, yet his full height is about equal to Mario's mouth

Holy crap this is awesome. Pikmin was pretty much the reason I bought a Gamecube -- he'd better have some good moves, as I tend to choose my Smash characters by whose source game I liked best.

Where is Luigi, Ganon, Jigglypuff, Mr. Game & Watch, and so forth?
I'm really happy that a lot of new characters are being introduced as well, but I'll rather see many of the old characters made as original characters, then all these new characters turned into hidden characters that you'll unlock during the course of playing the game. Since to me, it feels like there will be no secret characters.

Sakurai already said he won't be announcing the hidden characters before the launch of the game.

So... Has Ridley been confirmed yet? GD, I hope that monster is playable.
Side note, I've also heard rumblings around the tubes that there will be a Pokemon Rival who battles similarly to the Pokemon Trainer, but uses different pokemon, could be cool.
Now just give me a Wolf Link/Midna and I will be forever grateful to Sakurai.

OMG Ridley would be amazing, and Wolf Link/Midna would be cool as well. But Ridley ftw, seriously Brawl needs more dragons.

Wolf Link/Midna would be the single greatest thing to happen in this world since the invention of sliced bread. (Other than Sora, of course.)

I'm hoping for something along the lines of a transformation between link and wolf/midna ala zelda/shiek

With so many modes and characters and settings, imagine how big the instruction booklet will be!
But yeah, where the heck are Luigi, Falcon, Falco, Ganondorf, Marth? Would they really take out one of the very best characters from Melee: Marth? Would they really take out Mario's right-hand-man: Luigi? I doubt it but they're making me nervous...

Those are all probably unlockables, since they aren't revealing those on the site if I understand one of his posts correctly. Most of those were unlockables in Melee too, right?

Luigi's in there, Marth isn't. Luigi's a given. Marth? Please, he hasn't been in any American Fire Emblem, and they basically replaced him with Ike. There is little chance they brough back Marth. There is more chance Ness is in, and it sounds like he might've been axed.

There's a load of secret characters that wont be on the Dojo site.
Probably - Luigi, Falcon and some of the others from previous games.

Well I think they're trying not to have clone charaters like in the past 2 games.
Each charater has had its own unquie move set which is great.
But yeah I can see alot of the other charaters appearing as assist trophies.

This update was like a surprise present leftover from Christmas. I heard angels sing when I read about this. I LOVE HYPERBOLE.
Olimar = win, though.

Dojo is blocked here at school, but for some reason Wii Fanboy isn't today (Fortiguard usually filters it out as "Newsgroups and Message Boards"), so when i looked and saw Olimar in the Brawl Gallery 3, i was all "wtf?"
Surprising news, indeed

Actually, scale has always been silly in the Smash Brothers world. Kirby himself is only eight inches tall. So is MetaKnight, and King Dedede is fairly small too. Pichu should be nowhere near the size of Bowser, etc.
But everyone's always been scaled up or down to make them fit together.

I think the only one person who would fit is Rockman. No, not stupid Rockman.exe or the X series. The classic Mega Man would have no problem adjusting to the style of the game.

SUPER HAPPY, this is one of the characters i was hoping for. there are just two more on my list wolf link/midna and sora, omg if sora was in it AHHHHHHH, it would be amazing. i'm just trying to think of the pikmin arena, a bunch of those mushroom beasts or w/e trampling on you every once in a while. and like ign, how crazy would a match be with four olimars....20 pikmin in on brawl, amazing.

For some reason, I just can't get very excited about seeing Olimar as a playable character. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for everyone else who's happy he's in, but this selection just seems a little off to me. Playing him will tell the final tale, though.

I have mixed feels about Olimar, I really do. He was a character whom I never really wanted in the game, or maybe even an Assist Trophy at best.
When I read the update this morning I was thinking to myself that it was named "Pikmin & Olimar" meaning that maybe the primary fighters were actually the Pikmin, but Olimar was just there to be a coach.
It also said that Olimar can't perform smash attacks without the Pikmin nearby, and that they tend to scatter easily. Am I the only one that thinks that might be a little bit inconvenient? (So maybe Olimar is the primary character, but whatever)
Now as I'm reading into it, I'm thinking that it might not be a terrible addition to the Smash universe, but this is definitely one of those characters that I want to know about before I play the game, because if I get the game and see this guy all of a sudden, I would flip out. The music however was conducted very nicely, and the stage should be just as nice. It's too bad that their just has to be a doubt about the character from the game, which is most important to the Smash universe.
Also, now that they have in Olimar sized up to the size of Diddy Kong, now nobody can complain that Ridley's too big to put in. They can scale him down just as much as Olimar was scaled up.
