1UP, like some other sites on the Internet, put an article up about Wii Fit's mega-awesome performance in Japan. It includes the requisite Photoshop suggesting that Shigeru Miyamoto is flush with wealth, of course. But their writeup of the news has a little something extra: a release date. If the information casually dropped in the post is accurate, we will be stepping onto and off of things as soon as May 20th.
We're confused and frightened by the lack of any official release information regarding this game. Nintendo hasn't even announced a year for the North American release. Wii Fit is kind of the "next big thing" in expanded-audience Wii gaming, and thus we assume that they plan to, you know, sell it. We find a potential release date soothing. And why would 1UP just pull a date out of nowhere like that? The specificity lends credibility to the claim. Anyway, May seems as good a time as any!

Late May??
I was totally expecting to see it March or maybe early April at the farthest.
What reason does Nintendo have to not release it sooner than later?
Yeah it has tons of text but its not an RPG or anything so it shouldn't take that long to translate. I know they are probably changing shit from Metric to American Standard and maybe making the balance board hold more weight however all that shouldn't take 5 months.

I suspect Nintendo are holding Wii Fit back because they anticipate huge demand for it. As well as interest from more established gamers, it will appeal straight to the casuals who have bought their Wii for Wii Sports, and haven't got much else for it.
We all know about Nintendo's problems with getting hardware manufactured to meet demand, not just the console itself but Wiimotes and Nunchuks too. They don't want to repeat the same situation yet again, it starts to create negativity towards the brand. So they are probably getting a healthy surplus of boards in the warehouse before they release it.
And us Europeans can probably expect Wii Fit to be released Q4 2037. *sulks*

I thought the reason for the delay was to design a balance board better suited to the US. :-) (Seriously, I think that the average weight in the US is probably significanly higher than that of Japan for Wii customers.)
I'm still waiting to hear if the specs have changed any for the US release. I'd be able to use it just fine as is (after translations and region-change), but not everyone could claim the same.

this is horribly disappointing. as someone said at gonintendo.com, nintendo should've had this out closer to new year's so that everyone with resolutions to lose weight would buy this.
march would've been a fine month, but may? that's when it gets WARM outside here in NYC. why would i want to buy a game in late may to exercise when it'll be so nice outdoors? if anything, this would've been a perfect sale for indoor activity during the winter months.
bad planning, nintendo. how hard can it be to rush this out? you should only have to translate from japanese text!

i'm sad about this as well. i wouldn't mind a May release as long as Nintendo officially gave info about it, etc.

agree w/ most others here in being disappointed that it's still so far off. the announcement of this @ e3 got me soooo excited, i had been even more optimistic than others here and was thinking maybe there was a chance that it would still release this month (i know, foolish to think that it could somehow come out that soon w/o any warning), but yeah it totally made sense that it would come out in close proximity to the new year (resolutions) and the winter when people would be more apt to be active in doors.
gah! why are they waiting till may!?! *cry*

the wii needs this really bad right now, i don't know why its taking so long for them to release this, SONY is releasing everything they have just to be on top and so is Microsoft but Nintendo is not doing anything. thats not good for the wii and it might not even do good in may when it comes out, i really do think this will change how pple look at the wii but since its coming out in may it might not. pple might not even care about it!!!!! Ok so I also thought that Early 2008 meant Jan-Feb maybe March but you know I can wait just a bit longer. Was totally excited but you know that they say good things are worth the wait. As for all of you saying that they should have released it in th eWinter cause of the cold and can't go out side. It is nice to know that you live some place that usually only gets in the 80's in the summer with little to no humidity but if you come down south not only is it a little to cold in the winter to workout out side but we are working with 99 degree weather with 50% humidity so it feels like 110 degrees (at the least usually) and can't work out in that either so don't think that the summer release will make that much of a difference.
