Unwilling to honor its erroneous $19.82 pricing listed last Friday for Super Smash Bros. Brawl preorders, Wal-Mart has done the next best thing to appease the gamers who felt entitled to more than just an apology -- they've given us all free money. If you haven't received it yet, this is the message you'll receive soon, provided that you took advantage of Wal-Mart's too-cheap reservation: "As we are always striving to provide a positive customer experience, we will be sending you a $10 electronic Gift Card toward a future purchase as an apology for your recent experience. (One Gift Card per affected customer; this card can only be used online at Walmart.com. Look for details in a separate email.)."
Alright, so a $10 gift card only valid online isn't nearly as great as a ten-dollar bill in your hand -- or a twenty-dollar copy of Brawl, for that matter -- especially considering that every game or accessory at Wal-Mart that's worth a damn will run you much more than $10. You could always just use the card to offset the cost of an expensive purchase, or you could purchase one of these cheap alternatives we've picked out for you from the online store instead:
- Soho Cooler 4-Piece Glassware Set, Clear - $7.97
- ReliOn Ultima Blood Glucose Monitor - $8.88
- Disney - Men's Grumpy Love Boxer Shorts - $7.58
- Puddles Rainwear - $6.97-$9.97
- Spice Girls CD: Greatest Hits - $8.82
- Playtex One Step Breast Milk Storage Kit - $9.62
- Doodle Dinosaurs: Draw-Ruptor - $9.00

Definitely nice to get a $10 spot for my disappointment, but I don't know if I can set aside my hatred for the company long enough to actually buy something from them. The only reason I signed up to get the deal in the first place was to save money whilst I screwed them over.

I think I may have found the best thing to purchase on Walmart.com. Because of my long and storied history of hatred for walmart (predating even this SNAFU) I decided I didn't want to spend anything more than the free $10. So the first place I searched was through the wii accessories. Big nothing there. Everything is at least $10 and I didn't want Walmart to even get shipping and handling from me. So I went to the section of their website where they have the cheap DVDs. Amongst the midst of the Mary Kate and Ashley Olson DVDs and Cheap copies of the Divine secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood there stood out the one thing worthy of my (or Walmart's) ten dollars - Clue: Wide Screen Collectors Edition. The total after checkout and shipping and handling $9.87.
Don't waste your time looking around the website. It's nothing but crap (which is what walmart is known for). Just get yourself the movie that pioneered the alternate ending.
And on a final note: It's always Mr. Green with the candlestick in the observatory... always

I'd be extremely surprised if any of you actually believed that Wal-Mart would have honored that low price. If you honestly thought that you could have preordered a new game, especially one as popular as Brawl, for only $20, welcome to reality. Complaining about free money because it's not enough? Puh-lease.

I had vowed never to shop there again but have reconsidered given their admission of a mistake and providing this little offer for our troubles. Its nice to see companies take this kind of initiative.

I bought Tony Hawk Underground 2 for the Gamecube. It's only $12.82. And if you have it shipped to a Walmart store instead of your home, you don't have to pay for shipping.
