SNK Playmore sent a press release out announcing the lineup for their SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1 collection for PS2 and PSP. There's no mention of a Wii version, but a Wii version is listed in the game's ESRB rating, and it was discussed at TGS. We hope it's not a mistake, because we love old games, and this lineup is totally hot. We kind of suspect that this isn't actually coming to the Wii, because of the 16 games on the disc, 7 are already available as Virtual Console downloads. Metal Slug, of course, is also available on its own disc. We have no issue with redundancy, but we doubt SNK would give people the option of either paying $9 per game or (judging by recent disc releases) between $15 and $30 for a whole load of games.
In terms of stuff that isn't on the Wii, the disc includes things like Shock Troopers and Samurai Shodown. Check after the break for the full, awesome list. Just imagine how much this collection would have cost in new Neo Geo cartridge form.

- KING OF FIGHTERS '94 - The first game in the popular KING OF FIGHTERS series.
- KING OF THE MONSTERS - In KING OF THE MONSTERS, giant monsters fight for power in epic battles.
- LAST RESORT - A challenging futuristic shooter.
- MAGICIAN LORD - Players help the wizard Elta save his homeworld in this platformer.
- METAL SLUG - Known for its humor and fast- moving gameplay, this run-and-gun side-scroller was the first in the popular series.
- NEO TURF MASTERS - A golf game which debuted on the Neo Geo Pocket Color in 1999.
- SAMURAI SHODOWN - Set in the 18th century, SAMURAI SHODOWN features bladed-weapon combat and an international cast of characters.
- SENGOKU - In SENGOKU, players face off against undead feudal Japanese armies.
- SHOCK TROOPERS - In this run-and-gun adventure, players save a scientist and his granddaughter from the Bloody Scorpions.
- SUPER SIDEKICKS 3 - A soccer game featuring teams from all over the world.
- TOP HUNTER - Bounty hunters protect colonists from space pirates in this futuristic action game.
- WORLD HEROES - This classic fighter pits players against historical figures in a tournament enabled by time travel.

This took me back to the days when games kicked your WALLET'S ass - £300 per cartridge? Like hell!

If it doesn't come out on the Wii, I'll have to get the PS2 version. I'm glad that I put off shelling out for Fatal Fury and King of Fighters. No doubt it will be a much better bargain all on one disc.

I never got why companies couldn't just release their old games as hidden features of their new products. Like Maximo for the PS2.... that game was so full of nostalgia and win.... but the nostalgia was for GnG. Capcom produced both games, seems to me that throwing it in would be negligible cost-wise and it shows your fans that you appreciate their business.
Then again, with downloaded content, VC and whatnot, you could just put a 500 point card as a pack in with new games nowadays.
Oh yeah, and I want to see waggle-infused Windjammers... been dreaming of that one ever since I'd first heard about the Wii.

I could still imagine SNK releasing this collection on disc for the Wii. Exactly what percentage of Wii owners do you guys think are buying VC games at all, and of those, how many do you think are into Neo Geo games? How many will download 2 or 3 of them only to discover they'd have to delete some to download more?
I'm one of only two people I know who has a Wii connected to the internet, and the other one only put it online for the first time last night. I go to stores and VC point cards are always front and center, waiting to be bought, while all the other accessories (Wiimote, Nunchuk, Zapper) and the Wii itself are hard to come by.
VC is certainly not a failure, but.... even Microsoft has put out XBLA collections on disc at reduced prices, and with all their focus on online, half of their users have still never connected to Xbox Live, much less bought any games. Nintendo can scarcely be doing better.
If you have enough game to fill a disc, even at budget prices, your audience is way bigger than the audience for downloadable content and will be for another year or two yet.
