Speaking to MCV, No More Heroes director Suda 51 said that in the earliest stages of planning, his game was going to be made for the Xbox 360. It was his producer at Marvelous Interactive, Yasuhiro Wada, who suggested the Wii instead. "Originally, I'd wanted to make this game for Xbox 360, actually. Wada-san had information about the new Wii and how the new controller would work before it came out, so that's why he thought I should produce the game on that format."
It's important to remember that back then Suda wouldn't have known about the controller, or really much of anything about the Wii, while the 360 was a known quantity. A very small quantity in Japan, but still something that could be developed for. Of course, once Suda found out about the Wiimote (and, though he doesn't say it, the smaller cost of game development on the Wii) he was on board. Really, though, if No More Heroes tanked in Japan on the Wii, a system that people have, imagine the 360 sales.

That's pretty much what I thought when I read the headline. :P

A true test will be North American (and European) sales. Hopefully the game will do well in these regions so as to encourage developers to make more of these types of games.

If you're to believe VGChartz (which I don't), it sold a hair over 39,000 copies week one in the US.

Not yet having played the game (so I can't comment on how important the Wii control scheme is for the quality of the gaming experience) I wonder how it would've sold over here if it was released on the 360.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the stateside sales figures show that the Wii is a viable platform for quality, third party non-party games.

Has this not been mentioned before awhile back?
It would have sold worse on the 360 for a few reasons; You don't get a gun, There's lucky to be 10,000 sold 360s in JPN & 360 owners wouldn't appreciate the awesomeness.

Bloody, over-the-top lightsaber type game with many phallic references in-game? Well honestly the game probably would have stuck better to the American 360 audience. May even have broken 1 million in sales, possibly 2. There isn't really any other game like it on the 360 or the Wii but there is a bigger craving for this type of game from 360 fans. Especially when you consider the fact that they buy more games per console than the other two systems.
I do however still plan on renting this game for my Wii, as soon as Blockbuster decides to pick it up.

It'll be disappointing if Suda jumps ship completely. NMH was the first proper mature game on the Wii, and I'd like more to come.

Well, he's already working on Fatal Fram IV, which is not only a wii game but a collaboration with nintendo.
Also, about the 360 thing - 360 fans are way too unoriginal (not really the right term, but y'know....)... while the game is bloody, it's not an FPS, it doesn't have online multiplayer, and is way too "japanese" for the Halo crowd (which wouldn't even appreciate the cell-shaded style).

Of course it tanked on Wii, its not a party game or a game with super cute characters.
I would be interested to see it on 360, atleast then the controls wouldnt suck.

The control's would not have sucked? Bwahahahahah....
No really.... that's too rich...
It's the motion controls that keep the controll scheme from seeming like a total button masher. Granted, the High/Low sucks, but it's not due to a lack of control, it's just that the indicator is so far away from the action, and you can't tell what stance you are in in the heat of battle..
As for your trolling attempt, you fail. For proper trolling, you must have some sort of grain of truth, or at least some generally accepted notion. Your trolling alas, has none of these.

Nice screen shot with "LOW PRICE" in the background. Also, no one niticed the X-Box Shirt. Subtle, and nicely done.

It would have been depressing to see such a stylish game get overshadowed in lieu of other more prominent titles like Devil May Cry on the 360.
It's a good thing this happened.
