We apologize for how tardy this is, but something very unfortunate happened. You see, the tripod on our camera broke. This meant trying to balance a camera on a stack of about a billion DVDs. It didn't come out perfect, but at least we got you a majority of the screen.
As for next week, you can get back to expecting the usual

Columns III: Revenge of Columns (Sega Genesis, 1 - 5 players, 800 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: do not download!
Perhaps it's just this blogger's personal preference, but the Columns line-up of games has never been suited to me. I'm a fan of the puzzle genre, as a lot of you may well know, but Columns is just not my cup of tea. It's a slower-paced puzzle title, so maybe a lot of the tension brought on by other titles in the genre is missing here. Whatever it is, I just don't like the game too much.
The NES counterpart to Arcade shooter Operation Wolf may bring back fond memories of having that Zapper in your hand, blowing away baddies like it was going out of style, but in being transitioned to the Wii, it's lost much. The aiming is sloppy, and the aiming sensitivity is either too high or too low. Overall, this game is just a bad port and not worth your 5 bucks.
That concludes our look at this week's Virtual Console games. As always, if you have any tips or rumors regarding Nintendo's Virtual Console service, be sure to let us know and come back next week when we take a look at the latest titles available on the Nintendo Wii.

I like puzzle games too, but Columns never interested me. I played the original when that first came out on the Virtual Console and was sorely disappointed.
Operation Wolf seems like it would be fun if you could play it with the Zapper, but moving around the cursor with a control pad or analog stick takes just about all the fun out of the game.

I commented on your movie but for some reason it doesn't work anymore. ..
It's such bullshit that Operation Wolf doesn't work with Wiimote. We should of gotten the TG16 version instead that looks allot better.
David do you think it would be fun even if it did have wiimote controls? It looks pretty boring and I don't think it has aged well at all. Rail shooters have to keep action constant and quick and with that game you can't really see what your shooting at. Is it a man, is it a walking piece of shit, who knows who cares.
I am with you on columns something about it just doesn't registrar with me.
Oh yeah I didn't notice any difference in quality in video, in fact I wonder how the hell you do that since I try to record off my TV and it looks like shit and resolution lines flickering with my webcam

HDTV's are progressive scan, meaning they don't have those scanlines. Dave can stick the camera in front of the TV because he has a fancy TV.

Columns is the best puzzle game behind Tetris. Period.

What the hell Nintendo? Why do you keep putting out crap when you can put out gems? Is their bank vault overrun with money, that there is no more room for more, thats why they put stuff out no one will buy? Please Super Mario RPG, Golden Eye, Conker, Please!!!!

Hahaha, that does seem like the only logical explanation doesn't it? They should at least release a well-known classic every month.
What happened to three games a week? Lately it's been down to one or two games, and nothing really amazing either.

It was down for a couple of minutes for some reason. All seems fine now, though.

I could think of a decent list of puzzle games that are way better than Columns. (Panel de Pon, Lumines, Puyo Pop, Puzzle Fighter, etc.)
I suppose if you grew up with it, it may have some nostalgia. However puzzle games have grown quite a bit since then and I certainly wouldn't say Columns is the next best thing after Tetris.

Is it possible to plug your RCA output from the Wii directly into your camera? I've done it on an old Xbox, but not on a current-gen system, so I don't know if they have since added some kind of copyright scrambler. You might have to go to Radio Shack to get the proper connections, but it should be cheap. You should also be able to either plug the audio directly into the camera (via the same method) and do your voice over afterward (if your camera does not enable you to dub it live). That should be easiest/cheapest to do on your computer with a USB mic, I'm assuming. You could even record that on a computer at the same time that you record the video of you playing the games.
In other words, is there a reason why we have to film the TV at all, when a much higher-quality option should be easy/cheap? You won't have to deal with the broken tripod, reflections of you on the couch, with the camera scrambling to auto-expose every time the screen goes black or white...
Just seems odd with the otherwise high quality of the site, so I'm sure you have a reason.

I remember good times with operation wolf, but they should have updated it so the wiimote could be used as a light gun, that just ruins it.
