Capcom's on-rail shooter, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, is getting close to becoming a million-seller. It's been revealed that the title has sold 950,000 copies, with the million mark well within its reach. Actually, it could have already broken a million sales, as this data is current as of the end of December.
The game did a lot better than Capcom initially thought, especially in the U.S. and Europe where it sold the strongest, as the company reveals the title did 50% better than their in-house estimations. Personally, we don't know why they would think a game about shooting the crap out of the living dead and genetically-altered beasties alike wouldn't sell a million. Plus, with the Resident Evil name attached to it, how could it not sell incredibly well?

First Resident Evil Wii edition sold over 1 million, and now Umbrella Chronicles is about to cross that mark as well!
I would absolutely love it if Capcom decided to bring Resident Evil 5 to Wii after seeing the clear success of the other two Resident Evil games.

To add to my comment: I didn't get RE4:Wii (I had RE4 for GCN) or RE:UC (I might eventually if/when the price drops), but I would absolutely get Resident Evil 5.
I'm positive a lot of Resident Evil fans who may or may not have boughten the other two games would buy RE5. RE5 would easily pass the million mark on Wii and would do so rather quickly.

Never say 'boughten' again. Especially not near other living, breathing humans.

What's wrong with "boughten"?

I'm not really a fan of the Resident Evil series. However, this is HUGE news. This is the kind of success that will help put a fire under other developers to invest more money on games that appeal to an older Wii audience. there's been too much of a misconception that all Wii owners are grandparents and children. More games geared towards the hardcore gamer can only be a good thing for the Wii and by extension Wii owners. If there's enough of a reason we can see games that are well-made and built for Wii hardware (not PS2 ports) that really take advantage of the motion controls.

More proof that well-done, mature, third party titles can do well on the Wii.
I'm with Sonic_13 - Let's get some RE5 Wii action going! And I'd love it if Capcom started bringing its other franchises over soon as well (Devil May Cry, anyone?)
Congrats Capcom!

Absolutely I'd buy RE5 for the Wii over my 360.
I did buy RE4 for the Wii (sold my GCN version for it) and it's amazing.

I definitely agree with the other comments. Hopefully other developers will realize the potential in 3rd party games for the Wii. I am still upset with Namco for giving us a crappy version of soul caliber while the 360 and ps3 get the good version. Resident Evil shows that there is a market for well made mature games on the Wii.

I've got "RE:UC" and very much enjoy shooting the crap out of zombies. That, and the game is a bit more difficult than I would have thought for an on-rails shooter. Even with a buddy playing, we still suck pretty handily during the Raccoon City scenarios...
At the very least, this news should help quell the "no third-party first-run games sell well on the Wii." A long way to go, but heck...it's a start...

it's a pretty good game I really enjoy it more than I expected too.
I want a remake of RE 2/3 for Wii using RE4 engine. That would be awesome.

I thought RE4 on Wii was much better than the GC version. I have RE: UC as well and had fun with it (although 4 is MILES better than UC). Hopefully this gets RE5 a second look for Wii. I never understood why it was not being worked for the Wii. Rock Band has come around so hope spring eternal.

uhhhh i hate to be totally against what everyone has said but this is horrible news. RE: UC is a terrible game, the mechanics are way off making it hard to do the only thing you have to do - shoot, the design and graphics quality is ugly and mashed together to the point where it's hard to differentiate with things on screen, and the timing and pacing (something very important to on-rail shooters) is way off jumping between too slow and too fast.
i really disliked it and returned it a day after playing it. i played for about 5 hours to make sure and it just got more annoying and worse.
this is really bad news because it means that the wii can sell shitty 3rd party games that are terribly made ripoffs of main stream games but they CANT sell original and interesting 3rd party games like zak and wiki or no more heroes (though i'm hoping no more heroes sells well but we'll have to see).
i dunno if you people actually liked it or you're just so desparate for some good 3rd party games getting credit that you'll just say anything. i'm a HUGE RE fan, i've played every game since i got RE1 for psx and this game was total garbage compared to the actual series (and compared to any of the big name on-rail shooters of which i've played the majority as well). so that's my opinion :P

Ouch. I was thinking about it, but I'm going to have to... uh, think about it some more, I guess. Anyway, I agree both with the commenters who wanted to see RE2 and 3 remade with the RE4 engine, and those that wanted to see RE5 on the Wii. Frankly, I would rather play any 1st- or 3rd-person shooter on the Wii than any other system, as RE4 and MP3 have proven.

oh I agree - RE4 and MP3 on wii are loads of fun and phenomenal, i've been plowing through MP3 now on an addictive rampage and i'm close to the end :)
i was excited about UC but my large disappointment has turned into a deep bitterness especially cuz of the lack of RE5.

I'd buy RE5 for the Wii over the 360 for the controls and then I'd buy the 360 version for the graphics.
