Chunsoft is adding a suite of online features to the newest entry of its revered roguelike series, further distinguishing Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 3 as more than just "a 3D remake of the original SNES game." Topping the list of online additions is a new versus mode in which you can take a break from having monsters, traps, and other common dungeon hazards kill you -- instead, you can die at the hands of other wandering Shirens.Like the rescue feature introduced in Shiren the Wanderer DS, you can resurrect your friends who've died during their dungeon travels (they can resurrect you, too!) in Shiren 3. Also, online leaderboards and a pot-trading system will be implemented in the Wii version, putting that Nintendo WiFi connection to good use. All that's left to ask for is a US release from Sega!

I think this game is a lot more like a follow up to the Shiren game released in 2002 on both the DC and PC.
Here is a description of what I always simply called "Asuka Shiren"

I'd pick it up in PAL land just for the fact it has online play! online play games must be supported on the Wii it should be a law or something.....

This would be interesting to see how that works. While the Shiren series has had online support since 2002, it was always an indirect kind of connectivity (leaderboards and new content for download) and never an attempt to truly let multiple players play together or against each other. With this incarnation emphasizing party action, maybe its not such a stretch. What interests me, however, is a game like this is played out in steps/actions. While I'd expect to be allowed some time to pick my move while in the midst of combat, when I'm just running down a long corridor I sure as heck would not want to wait a full minute for each step I take down the hallway.
