Nintendo Wii Fanboy

I never actually owned a Master System, but I have fond memories of playing it at a friend's house. Namely Alex Kidd, Fantasy Zone, and Ys I. We're apparently getting Ys Book I and II for the TG16 on the VC, so I won't download the Sega version if it comes out, but Fantasy Zone is a must!

The Master System was my first console, and the first game video game I ever played was Alex Kidd in Miracle World. For nostalgia's sake, I'd like to see that on the VC.

Other games from my not-so-distant childhood that I'd be interested in: Out Run, Space Harrier, Phantasy Star, Penguin Land.

Wait, the Master System was announced? ;) I'll probably get as many SMS games as I have NeoGeo, which right now stands at a perfect 0, so...

But the more the merrier I say. Someone will enjoy having them available.

Since I still have one in the form of a MS Converter for Genesis, I won't get any, but there are stil a lot of good games on it for others.

It has great franchises on it like Sonic, Alex Kidd, Shinobi, Wonderboy(since VC needs every wonderboy game that ever existed on consoles, apparently), Phantasy Star, Streets of Rage and AM2 arcade ports. With all that, there absolutely has to be something that appeals to a gamer. If not, then you probably just hate 8-bit games.

The SEGA ports of others games are alright too, like Ninja Gaiden(not really a port) and Capcom games.

As for the Game Gear.... I think it's a horrible idea. These games have tiny resolutions and look/play like crap on TVs. Add VC support for them on DS and it'll be good - but with Master System on VC, who really wants GG games(it's roughly the same hardware, even)? This actually worries me since games like Sonic 1, for example, are on both formats. If they only port the GG version like in the past, people will(rightfully) think this great game sucks.

I'm indifferent. To my knowledge there are no AAA Master System games except maybe Phantasy Star I. I doubt it or any others have stood the test of time.

I've played some of my old Master System titles (on my Genesis Master System Converter) and none of those games have aged that well. My favorites: R-Type, Space Harrier (3-D), Outrun & Golden Axe.

Honestly the Gun games were the most fun for me (and could be played with the Wiimote!) with titles like: Gangster Town, Rambo III, and then ad the 3D glasses for Missile Defense 3-D - that is STILL fun to play!

Historical Note: Some of you missed out on playing games in the arcades (like Outrun, Afterburner, Space Harrier, Zaxxon to name a few), getting so excited to hear it coming out for your home console, and then being incredibly let down on how horrible the experience translated to the inferior hardware. Be glad for that!

So what? Why would I play really old games on a Nintendo Wii when I can play really cool, advanced looking games on a PS3, and the Wii sucks...is what I would say if I were a PS3 fanboy, but let's see how many people reply to this after only reading the first sentence. Awesome news. Maybe now I can play some of those Sonic games that were only available in the PS2's Mega Collection Plus.

I personally would have seen an announcement of Sega CD/32X or Sega Saturn games instead however this is taking into account that I really never played the Sega Master System either.

Did I? Did I? I still have one! I still have all my games for it too (all in their original cases), along with the light gun and 3D glasses!

Frankly, most of the games don't hold up. They have that really outdated format of "beat level, more/faster bad guys, repeat."

I'd love to see Wonder Boy in Monster Land, though. That's a really good one. Great music, satisfactory story, and varied gameplay.

whats the point of the SMS? Aren't the majority of its games available on the genesis with better graphics? is there actually anything really good on the SMS that never made it to the genesis? im asking because i really do want to know, not just trying to be a sarcastic asshole :P

My first system, and honestly loved it far more than the NES. Had to wait till SNES before I'd give Nintendo any decent credit. The SMS games were that much better than NES in my opinion.

Sega's Tennis Ace - GREAT, GREAT tennis game.
Shinobi - Great little shooter that is actually possible to beat... love it. I tried Shinobi III the other month, and cried. Nothing at all like the original.
Wonder Boy II and III - shop system for weapons was well done.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World - Great little game. Didn't like the ones after this, but Alex Kidd was a good challenge.
Hang-On and Outrun were some good racers, though far outdone today.
I remember playing many weekend games of Monopoly. Easy to set up, and pretty fast to play thru.
Wasn't really a fan of Afterburner, but R-Type and Phantasy Star were well done.

Honestly,

Sega is amazing though when they were rivals to Nintendo I was a bit biased against them. ;) I'm really looking forward to "Sonic Chaos" as that was one of my favorite Sonic games for some reason. I think that it would look really nice on the Wii. :)

I would love to see every classic system supported in the Wii Virtual Console. I think it just makes a ton of sense. Every system that can be supported by the hardware should get up there. With emulation what it is today, that's not only good business sense, but a wonderful legal alternative to hunting down and buying old hard- and software.

Phantasy Star on VC will be amazing. And I'm SO incredibly stoked for Game Gear games on the VC. You have no idea ( but you probably do)

yeah phantasy star was excellent, i'd go that again. as well as Kenseiden, hack'n'slash with great moves and a kind of free-choice pick the order you do the levels in thing.

err the alex kidds are alright too. and fantasy zone, definitely fantasy zone.

thinking back i reckon the one game i would really please like from the SMS library would be Ultima IV. playing that game off cartridge really improved it imo, on c64 it was endless disk swapping :( sms had improved graphics too, oddly enough.

SMS was my first system. I got it in '88 for my 8th birthday. Loved the crap out of it. I still own mine today. I loved Golvellius: Valley of Doom. I've played through and beat it 4 times. Just as recently as 6 months ago. Yayyyyyyy.

In addition to Phantasy Star (which I'd think was obvious), this would allow the Power Strike series to appear on Virtual Console. The Alex Kidd games vary wildly but there's some solid games behind one or two of 'em. The Shining Force series had more Game Gear outings than the Genesis (although the Sega CD compilation might be better for that).

Yep owned it. Bought it in 1987, and I still have it, though it isn't working. Alex Kidd, Fantasy Zone, and Space Harrier were my favorites at the time.

I'm mostly hoping to see Alex Kidd and the Lost Stars. Why? Because in it you can fight a naked dancing baby with a mohawk that defecates skulls. No kidding.
