We can't imagine there being a huge market of people wanting this model, with the exception of the truly paranoid. Even so, Crave writes that it won't take too much effort for Panasonic to beef-up certain plasma screens, since they're generally more durable than LCD panels.
Sure, a stronger screen might be useful for other reasons (not all of us have kids, and for all we know, they like to throw stuff at TVs for fun). If you're considering this purchase for Wii purposes, though, might we suggest you simply use protection?

It is my personal opinion that if your dumb enough to swing so hard you can't hold on and put the wiimote through your TV screen you deserve what is comming to you. I can understand getting excited and energetic about your games but seriously, if this is a danger for you use the strap around your wrist. If that doesn't work I'll sell you a canister of superglue on the cheap. Sorry for being cynical but this is just plain sad.

i feel you. its not like the wrist strap is even nesseccary anyway. why would you swing and flail so hard that you drop the control? doesnt that loose any competitive edge you have by not having the controller in your hand? i would be more worried about people hitting my Wiimote on walls and dressers and stuff than throwing it at the TV. most wont let the control out of their hand but alot of dont know where stuff is relative to their reach.
in all fairness though, i do make little kids wear the wrist strap when they play my Wii cause they may not know any better. but i never felt the need to send off for the Wii Condoms. we go raw dog in my house! (jk.....but not really.....lol)

Might as well make it withstand a full calorie.

Sorry but isn't calorie a unit of energy and joule a unit of work, energy moving an object?

1 calorie = 4.18400 joules

No, they're both energy. Watts are units of work.
1 calorie = 4.184 joules

1 joule = 1 Newton/meter = 1/100,000 dyne
So what's an un-dyne?

Seriously wear your wriststrap (and even use the jackets). They are both very effective and free.
But of course, if you like being careless then you can always just spend a couple grand on a new TV with an extra-strength screen.

HAHA! What an Idiot! He totally deserves it. They have some called a wrist strap for a reason and if your a big enough spaz to break it then you got some other issues that you and you psychiatrist need to work on.

Remind me again why someone would have a Wii hooked up to a HDTV in the first place?
(I kid, I kid.)

Four apples would hit the screen over an area the size of... four apples.
More damage would be done if you had a single object with the work energy of four apples and a smaller cross-sectional impact area.
e.g. A Wiimote

I always think of how fragile flat screens are because so many people wall mount their sets. It makes me nervous just looking at it 'cause I'm just picturing it falling off the wall and crashing on the floor.

Here's the thing: the people who would buy these TVs would ALSO be the people who would USE the writstrap and the wiimote covers....

I actually don't even have my wrist strap attached to my wii-mote anymore, it is currently being used on my mobile phone.
Even with or without the wrist strap attached to my wii-mote, I've only throw my wii-mote once. I was playing excite truck and went crazy trying to do the air spins, which made me drop the wii-mote.
Even my 50 year old father played wii sports without a wrist strap on and didn't even throw it once. Hell he was hitting home runs like crazy in the baseball game.
I comprehend that Nintendo doesn't want to get sued by idiots who have no control of their arms, but seriously, all you need is to be smart while playing a motion game and not literally go crazy when moving.
