Platinum GameCubes now fifty bucks on Amazon

Amazon currently has a pretty sweet Deal of the Day (or an awful one if, like this blogger, you get paid
tomorrow): a Platinum GameCube for just $50. Obviously, if you're reading this site, you probably already have at least
one way to play 'Cube games, in which case we advise you view this as a chance to:
- Plump up your Nintendo console collection.
- Invest in a cheap gift for a loved one.
- Grab a spare if the unthinkable should ever happen.
- Buy two and duct-tape them together for a $100 Wii.

Just had to squeeze that last one in there, eh? :)
Honestly 50 seems a bit high if anything. I mean, I know ps2s are more, but 50 seems steep for a system I can't even find at a Walmart anymore. How much where they before this? 79?

Is $50 dollars shocking? That's usually all my dad can get for em at his store and I think game traders usually sell them for around that. As of now I'd place the value of the dreamcast higher than that of the gamecube. Then again the dreamcast can become the ultimate emulator/arcade machine.

Lord no. That purple crap doomed the GC from the beginning. It should have been just black at launch, then platinum later on. Regardless of being the least popular color, everyone on the outside will always associate the Cube with being "the purple lunchbox" :(

I remember I was able to order a black Gamecube online. It showed up on my doorstep 2 days after Launch Day. Not a whole lotta demand for that system regardless of the color, huh? To this day I've never actually seen a purple Gamecube in person, only black and platinum.

Indigo is a blue color, common mistake. In any case the only other color it looked good in was black. I have a black and indigo gamecube myself. Platinum looks so cheesy and gaudy.

Hey doun't laugh. Mine is hooked up right now because my Wii is out for repairs. I've been playing Skies of Arcadia. I might get one of these as a back-up. :-)

*sigh* Shallow gamers. Appearance! Appearance! Appearance!
Is that only thing you shallow gamers care about? Is how something looks?
When gamers say videogames are enjoyed and played by adults now. I always laugh to myself. Why? because i know it's not true at all. The maturity level is still pretty low in the videogame community/industry and i don't see it changing anytime soon.
There's too many grown men acting like little boys. It's depressing.

Adults aren't concerned with appearance? What are you talking about? There's nothing immature about seeing a purple Gamecube next to your black TV and DVD player and finding it visually jarring.

Word is that Sears will have them on sale for $19.99 on March 15. I plan to stock up and dump them on Gamestop. What do they buy them for, $35?

Nope.
They sell them used for $ 30 so you'd be lucky to get $ 10 for it from them.

If I didn't have a black one already I might be interested. Or if it came with a Wavebird...

I do love the Gamecube. Though it wasn't very successful, I hope history looks back on it fondly. After all it had some amazing games, many of which were the best of the whole generation (Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Zelda: Wind Waker, best version of Soulcalibur 2, Animal Crossing).
As for the colour thing. I always much prefered the purple/indigo Cube, it just looked right (black just didn't suit it imo), but in terms of general perception it wasn't a good idea as in many people's eyes it made it look like a kid's toy and as silly as it deems it would have been more successful had it been in platinum only right from the start.

Haha, the deal bumped it up the the #2 seller in the Video Games section (only bested by SSBB:). If only the GC sat in that spot when it was actually relevent. The GameCube runs circles around the Wii, in my opinion.
And $50 dollars for a brand new GC is very nice. I can't wait for it to arrive. ^^

GameCube controllers are $25 anywhere, so this was a great deal, considering I was in need of a new GC controller.
Not sure where you guys live, but if I see a GameCube anywhere, they usually sell for $100.
