According to Nintendo, yesterday's news that Brawl had slipped to a fall release in Europe was nothing more than "pure speculation and guesswork."
But hold on, we hear you cry, wasn't Reggie Fils-Aime himself the source of this news? Well, yes, but it looks as though his comment was taken in the wrong way. Instead of saying Europe would be getting Brawl in the fall, Reggie simply stated that the game had been removed from the winter/spring release window. In other words, it was all a simple misinterpretation!
Here's EGM editor Shane Bettenhausen to sooth our fears: "Reggie did tell me (and the other media present) that the release had been pushed out of the winter/spring timeframe due to the amount of localization required to get the game up and running with all the various European languages. But Reggie did not say when Europeans will get Smash Bros., just that it would be at a later date than the US."
Phew! So perhaps now we can all stop shouting and angrily throwing stuff about (we've replaced the two posters we tore down, but our Chocobo plush is a goner).

I've always wondered why it takes Nintendo so long to complete their games. It's not like they are some obscure video game company, their Nintendo. Why don't they just hire more people, especially in reguards to translation.
How many months does it take to translate "Failure!" and "Falcon Punch" into 5 different languages. =P

this is awfully selfish but i think all games should be released simultaneously worldwide :P
so keep your NTSC copies untill us Europeans are ready :D
nah, i don't like waiting, and therefore wouldn't keep any of you lucky brawlers back from smashing.. :(

I hate that Nintendo has to translate their games to five languages.
What about the other countries in Europe (whole scandinavi, britain and many more) who doesn't need the extra languages. It would be much better if Nintendo just made the American verison to a PAL version directly and let the countries that doesn't need the other languages play the game right away. I mean why should we suffer because some countries can't/won't learn English-

That's a massive relief.
And, not that I'm defending the big delay, but keep in mind that Brawl does have more text than most people immediately think. There are several hundred trophies each with their own description, after all.

Well, in the case of brawl, I think the localization has more to do with the online network required to run this in Europe. They have to manage the servers, get all that set up and going and modify all the different network calls to be linked in with Nintendo of Europe's servers.

I was working with someone on a project illustrating err World Scriptures into powerpoint. Simultaneously in many languages. It takes one hellishly long time to even propose one word change. And since this is scripture it's really important every word is perceived and interpreted correctly. So yeah it really can take a long time to translate things. Especially since Tree House is busy with all Nintendo projects.
