What would Super Mario Bros. look like on the Sega Genesis?

We've been loving these fake
Super Mario videos that have become all the rage with the kids on the net. It's like someone was reading our diary, reaching into our brain and sifting through the garbled mess of fanboyish dreams that we think about on a daily basis. It may be kind of violating to have someone so accurately recreate our inner-most desires, but it's a small price to pay for the minutes of joy we got out of the video above.

I don't get know why the gameplay is so different. After all, Sonic is about running and jumping on people.

See below comment, it's a graphically edited version of a pre-existing Genesis game.

This is an actual game for Genesis. I believe it's a hacked version of Chip & Dale.

I heard Speedy Gonzales. It's something cartoony.

Turns out we're both wrong, it's "Squirrel King" (it's on YouTube). To me, it looks like a Chip & Dale game that might have been created on spec, not bought by Disney, and released as "Squirrel King" instead. But that's just speculation on my part...

@ Cory:
You're thinking of the pirated Sonic game on the SNES. It was an edited Speedy Gonzales.

I actually have a pirated Chinese cart of this game..trust me it sucks. One thing, there is far more extensive use of Kuribo's Shoe or whatever in this than there was in SMB3 ;)

Yeah, I don't think I would like Mario as much if he threw boxes instead of jumping on the heads of his enemies.

Look up "Somari" on the NES. It's basically the Genesis Sonic 1 ported to NES, but with Sonic replaced by Mario.

There's a BIG difference between fan-created videos, and shittily crafted pirate games that just stole graphics from the SNES games anyway.

More like if Super Mario Bros. were a buggy early build of a Commander Keen-era shareware game...

It's much closer to what Super Mario Bros. would be on the Genesis. In fact, it keeps the original gameplay intact (sort of). You play as Sonic, but it's still clearly Mario.

They could have at least picked a better platformer to skin as a Mario game.
