Looks like we've got our own less-severe version of the Xbox 360 "towel trick" -- an unconvential, illogical-sounding way to get games to run when the system is uncooperative. 1up's Videogames Editor-in-Chief James Mielke has offered a possible solution to the disc-reading errors that have broken so many would-be Brawlers' hearts. It's somewhat less interactive, unfortunately, than the iconic towel maneuver.According to Mielke, if you listen to the Wii's disc drive and make sure it stops spinning before "spamming the A button," the game will more often than not load correctly. You have to put the disc in, then wait, then press A on the Disc Channel, and wait for the noise to die down again. This makes it sound like the issue is that the dual-layered disc takes longer to read than most discs, and the system accidentally allows you to stop the reading when you press A and start the game.
Soon after the Japanese release of the game, a company called A-Class released a series of Wii lens cleaners specifically marketed at Brawl owners. We're sure we'll see something similar over here, and we have no idea if it will work.

Actually, this is what I do to play GH III. For some unknown reason, if I just turn the Wii on and immediately fly to the disc channel and click start, it just hovers at a black screen forever and never loads. If I wait a few seconds, though, it works every time. It's very strange.

There is a new bug floating around for you people, like me, that got the game late saturday night to where you wont have a option in WiFi mode for Spectator or adjust Options for receiving messages from Nintendo....ala Downloading Levels. Plus i also notice you cant send your created levels, Videos (for spectator mode), or Pictures to Nintendo.
Apparently its effected alot of people out there but there is a way to fix it, but your not gonna like it, you have to delete your entire gamefile. Just a little info for you guys who want to get the downloaded levels. Believe me its better now then if you collected everything.

According to the manual, the spectator option is only available sometimes. I don't know about the other ones, but I'm guessing it's the same deal.

Does this mean that we think the "cleaning" Nintendo is doing is actually something along the lines of removing the option to stop disc-reads prematurely? It seems like it wouldn't really have hurt them to release that news instead of masking it as a lens issue...

That could have been done by a software update, there must be something else here.

This doesn't work for people who are actually having the problem (which it's quite obvious the writer of this 'tip' does NOT have), because people who are having this problem don't even get the Brawl icon in the Wii menu at all.
The flippin' disc icon just sits there, spinning slowly, and you never get the Brawl icon.

That happened to me the first time I put in the disc. After clicking the disc channel and going back to the menu it loaded.

I noticed weird noises during loading sometimes and some cutscenes lag.

Makes sense, although it might be an unrelated issue, because i have that problem occasionally if i hit "Start" right after clicking the disc channel
My rule of thumb is to let the channel's "Intro music" play, for whatever game it is. In Brawl's case, however, the intro sound is short, unlike, say, Metroid Prime 3, Secret Rings, or Radiant Dawn, which are some of the longer ones

SSBB starts fine for me, then gives the "disk can't be read" error about 5 minutes in. From then on, the disk error crops up immediately.
I sent my console in to be "cleaned", and got it back today. Same problem as before. Clearly the issue is not dust.
