According to a Gamefly listing, Eidos will release a Wii/DS game called Wacky Races in June. It's entirely likely that this will be a racing game based on the moribund Hanna-Barbera cartoon, which featured road races between Dick Dastardly (and Muttley), who we vaguely remember as being annoying jerks, and a bunch of characters nobody remembers.
This wouldn't be the first time a Wacky Races game has been released in the 37 years since the show ended. Atlus published a NES platformer starring Muttley, and in 2000 Infogrames published a cel-shaded-looking PS2/Dreamcast racing game. We don't really understand the continued publisher interest in Wacky Races -- it was an okay cartoon, but doesn't seem to be especially popular or relevant today. Perhaps these publishers are simply extremely terrified of coming up with original characters for a kart racer.

No love for Penelope Pitstop or the Gruesome Twosome? Damn that's harsh.
Seriously though, this show wasn't even on when I was a kid (currently 27). I only caught re-runs on cartoon network back in the mid 90's. Who the hell could possibly be interested in playing a licensed game that hasn't had new episode in 30some years?

The only person I remember from that show was the (pictured) Dick Dastardly. And you can already race as him in Double Dash. I mean, sure, they renamed him Waluigi, but it's totally the same guy.

My favorite character is Muttley and the way he laughs. A shame that younger people didn't see some of these, they were good cartoons when you were young enough to enjoy them. I think they would make a good kart racing game if more people could associate with the characters but this particular cartoon has not stood the test of time.

I was watching the Wacky Races this weekend! They play it on Boomerang/Cartoon Network. There were only 34 episodes made. Two other animated shows were spun off of this cartoon: "Dastardly & Muttley in Their Flying Machines" (or "Stop that Pigeon") and "The Perils of Penelope Pitstop". And I do remember it from when I was young.
I think they could make a great kart-style racer from this. It had a variety of crazy characters and crazy cars. Plus maybe they will add other Hanna Barbara characters? I think it has potential. I love Mario Kart, so if they created something in that style it might be good.
Or it may suck, who knows?
If you look on You Tube you can find clips from the show, and the previous forgettable video games.
