Maybe we're just anti-establishment by nature, but sometimes hype works on us and sometimes it doesn't. Occasionally, when people won't stop talking about how cool something is or will be, we're inclined to like it less. I was doing my best to be in the too-cool-for-Brawl camp until the promise of online play (and an actual play session) convinced me that maybe I should give up my practiced aloofness in favor of fun times. But other people are a lot cooler than me, and therefore I assume that there are some of you out there who are still doing their best to vocally not like this popular game. Of course, now that the game's out, it's the perfect time to start a backlash! Anyone else out there cold on Brawl just because it's too popular, and too frequently discussed (even right now)?
If not, why not enjoy a little poseur spirit and pretend to be too cool for Smash Bros. in the comments? Sincerity is for mainstream blogs.

A more serious gripe so far has been my complete inability to get assigned into a random online match, either being booted or getting stuck with sandbag, alone, forever without getting connected
It froze the whole game once, just trying to disconnect.

Yeah, I ran into that problem playing last night... It _did_ connect me with _one_ person (around 10:30 pm CMT), but after the game (which I lost terribly...) it searched for another person as I couldn't game again with the first one.
I think the service, in principle, looks like it'll work just fine...but there needs to be more people with the game first, I guess...

I contacted Nintendo about that issue since their are tons of people with this game and they said that their servers are being overloaded with connections. Also their is an issue that is not allowing people to even connect to the server which is when you get an error code when trying to connect or while your waiting for an opponent.

I actually like Brawl, but there are still multiple issues with the game.
[a] the controller set up is nice, however certain attacks can not be switched to another button. For example, the smash attack on the wii-mote only.
[b] no real motion control using the wii-mote, which to me, is a great let down
[c] SSE's overworld map is confusing once you start navigating around, you can quickly lose your next mission position.
[d] Nintendo being stupid and not preparing their servers for the additional online load, meaning that 3/4 of the players had lag or were unable to connect and fight against more then 02 other players.

@ [c] When you complete a level on SSE you get either a green flag or a crown. (I think) the green flag means you completed the level and a crown means you completed it 100 percent (opening all hidden doors and getting all of the special items). Anytime you are lost just look for an area without a crown or a flag.

I won't be buying it. SB was never my game. I'll be getting Mario Kart wii on it's launch day though, whenever that might be.

Problem? No headsets/voice chat.
I still don't really understand the logic, since Nintendo has parental controls on the console that definitely could limit access to that sort of feature, if desired...
I don't even own the game yet but I played it in one of the dorm rooms above mine...fun so far, but I really wish that headset functionality was there...

I had never played any of the Smash Bros. games before, though I had seen them. Getting Brawl was kind of a foregone conclusion because of the online play. Though, like others, I have yet to be able to successfully connect to a game, but am looking forward to trying it once the kinks are worked out of the servers...
I understand the mentality to resist what is mainstream, but sometimes you've got to give credit where credit is due.
Brawl is a good time, no doubt about it.
I'm going to be putting in all the friend codes posted in the earlier thread later today, so that should help out.

Brawl is a lot of fun. It's my first Smash game and I'm having a great time.
That said, of course it didn't completely live up to the hype. It would have been nearly impossible to do that with the level of anticipation surrounding it -- anything less than the Holy Grail covered in delicious melted chocolate is, on some level, a disappointment. That's not at all to say it's a bad game; it's just not the best experience of my life.
As a side note, I think the effect of the prerelease hype machine is part of the reason that Ocarina of Time is so adored -- after years of incredibly (and unreasonably) high expectations, it actually met them.

That's actually what I'm worried about, too. I don't have it yet, but if/when I do, it will be my first Smash Bros. game as well. I feel it will be like playing Madden for the first time right now; so many people have been so good at it for so long that I'll just get destroyed and turned off to playing it.
Practice makes perfect, though.

I never liked Smash Bros. Maybe at some point I'll give this iteration a chance, but it's pretty low on my list of gaming priorities.

Truthfully, I somehow was able to ignore most of the hype. Whenever there was a Dojo update, I might have skimmed it, rarely actually reading any (and no, I wasn't worried about spoilers). However, yesterday morning, on a whim, I stopped in Walmart and picked the game up (a very similar thing happened with Halo 3).
So far, I enjoy the game quite a bit. I enjoyed bot previous versions, so I guess I knew I would eventually get the game, I just hadn't planned on picking it up on launch day.

I've always wondered why people treat this game like a real fighting game. It's more of a party game centered around beating the crap out of each other. It's more of a beat 'em up, but you beat each other up. Obviously it lacks the depth of other tried and true fighters, but crossing over characters from all your favorite games is what makes it special. Not only does it bring characters from all kinds of games, but it does it well, and it manages to be fun for a very long time.
I too ignored all the Dojo updates, and all the Brawl media hype, but when I picked it up over the weekend it was everything I expected. The game is fun. :D

I suppose I'm part of that minority. The Brawl games just never appeal to me and I'm sick of hearing about SSBB. Hopefully, I can now hear about other games worthy of my gathered pennies.

I love Brawl.
This morning(6:30 ET) I went online and got two other players.
Not to gloat, but from the complaints im hearing...i think my copy is (the only)glitch-free one. Only thing I hate is loading times.

I like how no one would entertain this same discussion when Halo 3 came out. At least Brawl is genuinely good. Halo 3 is one of the most overrated games I've seen.

i thought maybe i hyped this game up too much in my mind before its release, because i played a bit yesterday and was a little disspointed. however, i played again today (for four hours straight with a friend) and realized that yeah, it's the best multiplayer game ever. simply put, Brawl rocks!
as a side note, now that i've seen more of what the game has to offer, i can't help but think of things that could have or should have been included in the release. chiefly amongst those, i wish that some of the assist trophies had been made into full blown characters, that the final smashes had been balanced a little better, and that a few Kingdom Hearts/FF characters had made it in (wishful thinking, i know.)
