The latest Virtual Console game to show up on the ESRB's ratings search page is an obvious one: Sonic & Knuckles. With Sonics 1 through 3 already available, it was only a matter of time before The Rest of Sonic 3 showed up. The ESRB rating should mean that the game will pop up on the VC soon, though it's no guarantee. How will Sonic & Knuckles' unique "lock-on" feature work on the Wii? The original cartridge featured a pass-through that allowed other Sonic games to be connected, unlocking the ability to play through those games as Knuckles. Previous ports of Sonic & Knuckles have been packaged with the other games, with the "lock-on" extras selectable from a menu. Will Sonic & Knuckles on the Virtual Console check for Sonic 2 and 3? Will you be able to play Blue Sphere? Or will it just be the main Sonic & Knuckles game? We're curious, but we aren't getting our hopes up. Just like every other time a Sonic game comes out!

I don't think the game is really worth it if it DOESN'T feature the lock on component. That said, if it does, it's worth it to get both Sonic 3 and S&K. :P
I have Sonic Mega Collection, though, so I can already play all of these games on my Wii.

I would get this but I already have three copies of this game.
To any people dithering on whether to purchase Sonic & Knuckles: buy it. Sonic & Knuckles is the greatest game of all time.
But like Indiana-Roto said, without the revolutionary lock on technology you are losing something. But still, it is Sonic & Knuckles.

Yes, but the issue here is the fact that Sonic & Knuckles is quite literally, the SECOND HALF of Sonic 3.
In my eyes, not being able to link up Sonic 3 with Sonic & Knuckles is a big issue.
That being said, I will continue to enjoy my unlocked Sonic 3 & Knuckles on Sonic Mega Collection for GameCube.

I've been wondering about whether a Sonic & Knuckles VC title would have some form of lock-on tech implemented or not. Odds are I'll probably get this, and yes I know there are cheaper options, I just like the idea of using the wii remote to play it.
Ideally you could "grab" the S&K channel with A+B and drag in on top of the Sonic 3 channel in order to "create" a new Sonic 3 & Knuckles channel. Ideally.
However, I expect it to be sans lock-on despite the fact that this would destroy the games purpose for being.

I expect that after paying 800 points for S&K we'll have to pay 800 more for each individual "lock-on" iteration, S1&K, S2&K and S3&K. Although it would be nice since Nintendo tracks with VC games you download that Sega would offer a free "lock-on" version of the two games that you have previously purchased.

Agree I wouldn't get it if it can't lock on.

The Wii's save states will negate the biggest issue that i had with standalone Sonic & Knuckles: The total lack of saves. However, including Blue Sphere will be a nice touch. Maybe they'll keep track of your purchase history, and allow you to play the others if you have them already.
But i'm not interested, I already have a fully cleared (all Super Emeralds) Knuckles file on Sonic3 & Knuckles for Mega Collection

I have yet to see a Sonic-related post on this site that isn't somewhat negative.
Yes, the series has gone downhill. Does anyone really need a constant reminder with every piece of Sonic news?

I've gotten used to it, like how people persist in mentioning the Wii's failings practically every time its success is brought up
For me, however, Sonic has stayed strong. The only games i didn't like were Shadow (and then only because of that idiotic storyline apparently meant to appeal to preteen emo kids) and Sonic PS360 (mostly because of god-awful load times and a failure to fulfill their promise to truly revitalize the series)
I loved SA, SA2, Heroes, and Secret Rings

It's really annoying. Joystiq do it, as do DSfanboy to a lesser extent.
Sonic never went downhill. He's saturated at the moment, with all the cameos and spin offs, but the platformers are still amazing.
Like Khan already said, Heroes, SA1, SA2, were all awesome.

@Mr Khan
Aah I remember when I had S3&K. All files had all super emeralds with all characters with a 100 continues each. Then the save battery died and I gave up on it.
