Wii Fanboy Review: Nyko Perfect Shot

When Nyko sent us over the Perfect Shot, we thought that it would be great to try it out with House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return. Sadly, though, we received it before that game released, so the titles we had on-tap to play included Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and .. actually, we just had RE to play.

The first thing I noticed when cracking open the box for the Perfect Shot was the cardboard Wiimote sticking in the top of the gun. "Fair enough," I thought. Folks will know exactly how to hook their Wiimote into the thing. Simple as pie.

Then I pulled the Perfect Shot out of its packaging and noticed the nunchuk adapter on the bottom of the gun's butt. Kind of odd, but whatever. And, also, I noticed there is no button release for extracting your Wiimote once it has been inserted into the peripheral.

So I hooked the Wiimote in and, I have to say, the Perfect Shot cradles the Wiimote, well ... perfectly. But removing it is kind of difficult, because the peripheral hugs the Wiimote so tightly and, for me at least, it feels like you're going to snap off the male adapter on the inside of the gun barrel. Aside from that, the rest of my time with Nyko's peripheral has been pleasant.

The thing feels good. It rests comfortably in my hand and takes me back to when I was just another gang-banger in the illy Philly Philadel. The trigger isn't loose and is very responsive. So in feel and function, the Perfect Shot also excels. It only took me a couple missions in REUC before I was gunning down zombies like it was my day job.

From a weight perspective, the thing is definitely hefty, but not so much that you can't stand to lift your arm. Keep in mind that pretty much all of the weight is coming from the Wiimote, so the shell on its own is very lightweight. It also feels very durable, like, actually, a real gun. Like you can smash in a car window with the butt of this thing (kids, don't try this).

I was very pleased with the Nyko Perfect Shot. Sorry I couldn't compare it to the Zapper itself, but Nintendo never sent us one. I can't comment on how it compares to that, but the Perfect Shot definitely feels comfortable and gets the job done. Considering it's going for $15 at most places, we don't see why any Wii owner that enjoys on-rail shooting action shouldn't be without at least two of them.

Final score: 9/10
