Bomberman packed with shields, rocket packs, and Mii support
Though it's still unclear whether all this Bomberman media is for Hudson's announced WiiWare title or for a disc-based retail release, we're not going to enjoy these screenshots any less because of those doubts. Already, we've spotted new, game-changing items -- rocket packs and shields. Presumably, the rocket pack allows you to hover over the arena until you find a safe landing spot. If you were smart, however, you'd use the rocket pack to fly the hell away from the battlefield and its crazed bombermen, escaping towards a distant, bombless country.
Bomberman will consist of a story mode, battle mode, and "My First Bomberman" mode, the latter of which teaches the game's basics and new weapons with a series of lessons. The 39-stage story mode charges you with the quest of saving your system's Miis, while the battle mode is the multiplayer arena you're all familiar with, except with eight-player support, Nintendo WiFi Connection matches, and online leaderboards. Sounds like a solid game! The only detail we're wary of is its Wii Remote features -- you can use items by shaking the controller.

Sweet, I love Bomberman. But, I have the TG16 VC version that plays just fine, so we'll see how this game actually ends up and for how much money.

I agree, having Bomberman '93, the allure of online play is there, but not there for a $50 purchase. I'd totally pay $5 - $10 for Online, but not much more for something that's the same as what I have

Sounds great, but why in the hell wasn't Bomberman Land like this in the first place? Also, and much more importantly, any word on if this game includes punching gloves as powerups (I see the bomb throwing gloves in one of the screens, but no punching gloves)?

A shield? That would have to be perfectly balanced, otherwise it'd completely break the game. Maybe if it was single use or something like that. Otherwise you'd end up with one guy standing in a corner, turning back and forth until sudden death.
I can't tell what the rocket pack would do, maybe some sort of Boba Fett choking hazard action. The Mii integration on the victory screen is a genius idea.

The shield, i think, would just help prevent some of the cheapo, random deaths, since it seems to me that it only blocks from the front, so you could still trap players, front and back.

I like that they are blowing up treasure chests.
and bomberman land was fun, and yes they could have added all these features, but in terms of upgrades and speed of the game, it was better than bomberman 93.
except that 93 had 5 player which was really nice, but the upgrades in the newer one won my heart.

Since when are there cheap, random kills in Bomberman other than in sudden death?

I would hope the Mii support would entail using your Miis on the battlefield.

Bomberman Land has no online play...I think it's more of a lame minigame collection.
