Super Smash Bros. Brawl knocks sales records into the sky
We get the feeling our Game Nights are just going to continue to get more crowded, which is okay! We're happy to lose to a large and varied group.

Go Nintendo! I'm wondering what kind of numbers we'll be seeing next month with Mario Kart Wii - something tells me that the numbers could be similair . . . ;)

Has Halo 03's release record been beaten however? That is my true question as I have a co-worker constantly making fun of me for being a Wii owner. So I would like to rub the Smash Bros release record in his face.

Unfortunately, no. Halo 3 sold around 4 million copies worldwide in pre-orders alone.

Key word is worldwide. Brawl has a staggered release, which will definitely skew the results. So while officially Brawl didn't break the record it still hasn't come out in PAL Land.

I wonder if you add up week 1 from US and JP (and other nations that halo 3 released in) and I bet Smash brothers beat halo 3.

Actually the problem is quite the opposite - too many people trying to get online at once and cramming the servers.

Just out of the blue, I now wonder if Nintendo ever considered a "special edition" package. I don't really mind that they didn't considering that whatever stuff comes with a game usually gets forgotten with a few months, but it'd be cool to have a peek at Nintendo's marketing staff on something like that.

Not surprising at all... I got it on release date at Best Buy in Pentagon City, VA and during my 20 min metro ride to the store I saw at least 10 people with copies of it.
Yet, I find no one to play it with me online (sucks eh?).

scratch that last post. My little bro erased my previous data, Subspace included, so my new FC is: 3093-6891-9536.
Sucks, because I had just unlocked Snake.

I have to admit, I accounted for *two* of those. When my CircuitCity pre-order hadn't arrived yet, I bought one in store on Wednesday. My pre-order finally arrived on Saturday. Ridiculous.

Why am I not surprised by the sales numbers. I went to the midnight release at my local gamestop and there was around 100+ people their. Not to mention the other gamestop midnight release in my town. For some reason I could bet that brawl would have beaten Halo 3 records if it was on a single world wide release. Does anyone know the first week Halo 3 sales just from the US?

never mind my question. I just found the answer. 1.7 million preorders in the US alone.

I think the main reason that Brawl was outsold by Halo 3 was because Brawl had little to no marketing compared to Halo 3. Did anyone notice HOW much marketing Halo 3 had? They had tie-ins with Mountain Dew, 7-Eleven, I think a car company, etc. Brawl was just meant to be sold on its merits alone and the Dojo (but only people who were probably going to buy it like me looked there). I guess they used to market games (lol for funny original smash bros. commercial and other old commercials) but they don't anymore. I, for one, would like to see more Ninty commercials to broaden the audience.
On a side note, NINTY get FPS on your console! wiimote is win for aiming! MOH:H2 was ok, but get better ones!
