The majority of coverage for Worms: A Space Oddity has focused on the lack of online play (including the title and first sentence of this post). However, lots of Worms games have been offline-only (if only because so many of them predate online capabilities in game consoles), and fixating on that disappointment draws attention away from the other aspects of the game, which include: the whole game.
Four new trailers for the game focus on the game's new or updated weapons, like the Robo-Sheep seen here. The Robo-Sheep is like a regular sheep, but robotic, because it's more sci-fi that way. Also you can move the Wiimote up to make it jump before exploding.

I wont even consider a worms game without online capability. This is 2008, not 1998. Totally unacceptable.

It doesn't matter how good this game is. I'm not buying it. Home many times have I played worms world party without a real opponent online? 0. Same will go for Space Oddity.
I'd like to be a fly on the wall of the boardroom where the 'no online' decision was made. I'd really like to hear the argument against it. The payoff for having online functionality would be - well, people would actually buy the game... I'm sure it would out-weigh the shovel-ware this has now become.

Most probably it was: "Nintendo won't let us". Most great Wii games lack online play due to strict and stupid online policy. I don't think Team17 guys decided to drop one of the greatest feature just by saying:
- "Hey guys, let's add online play!"
- "Let's not."

I think it looks good and fun but I can't argue with the others, no online play for a game like this is ridiculous. I really hope they live to regret ever deciding against it and put it down to a poor decision on their part. With online play I would have bought this game, without it, no chance.

Wow so many negative comments about a game not being online. A lot of games have not been online that should have been, even some that had promises of having downloadable content; IE The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. Sadly this has not occurred, so what? The gamecube was not online, mostly, and it had multiple excellent multiplayer and single player games.
I'm not a huge worms game fan, but as any video game fan will state, just because something you like or don't like is included or not included doesn't mean that that the game won't be fun to play.
Just test the game out and/or shut up people, as your not game developers who produce anything. We game purchasers are just individuals buying a game that seems interesting, we won't know until we play it.

I think it's safe to say that I can imagine what this game will be like without online play. I used to love playing it on the PS2, but that's because I lived in a student house with 4/5 other people who played it too. AI in Worms game are notoriously stupid and having a limited amount of 'real' people to play is a downfall you can't ignore.
Also, I don't agree with the comments that negative comments about games that are made before they've been played should be wiped off the face of the earth. It's obvious that they won't sell as many of this game due to there being no online play, that's something we're definitely right about.

I once got worms after eating a egg salad sandwich I got out of a truck stop men's room venting machine. I thought it came with a black cookie but it was a tomato.
Wait, that wasn't me, that was Fry on Futurama!

I would hope everyone will pass this by to teach Team17 and Nintendo a lesson that online can and will sell a game and is a feature for multiplayer games that can not be left out for any reason.
If I ever have a worms craving then I'll play on my 360 with a few friends. I am in graduate school far away from any of my friends that had a 360. All of my local friends aren't the type to buy consoles.

I played Worms on my Amiga, and Worms 2->World Party on PC, pretty much 99% of the time it was against someone else in the room.
It's much more fun when your opponent's sitting beside you.
But, FFS. It's only worms! It's not like it needs 1000 gb of data streaming up and down the network..
Aim, Power..
Send that..
2 numbers..
Stick in a Pseudo Random thing, so they both do the same, and let each cpu work out the rest independently.
2bytes per shot.
Not bloody hard!
It's no small wonder we've still no new Alien Breed yet..

^ Alien Deathmatch - it'll do in the meantime.

I don't think it's just the fact that there is no on-line play, I think it's also that this is a rehash of the same games with renamed weapons AND there is no on-line play.
Let me be clear, I LOVE the Worms Game. The DS sequel is pretty much a masterpiece. But look, the Excavator? It's a shovel doing the same thing that the blowtorch does. Astropunch? Dragonball. Dropship? Donkey. Cluster Frag? Cluster Bomb.
If it was the same old stuff, but renamed and on the Wii, AND had on-line play, I would totally buy it. Same old stuff, and no on-line play? No thank you. I'll be in my DS climbing the ladder in Worms: Open Warfare 2

Same old single player options that have been reproduced over a dozen titles of the same name for a game thats only fun in multiplayer?
No Thanks.
They screwed the hooch with this one plain and simple. Online play or no play ( and no buy ).

I think what really hurts the Wii edition not having online is the fact Team 17 banged out an HD, online enabled Worms on XBLA a few month before. That upped the standard a lil bit. And they're charging $50 for this version??? Hell no.

I am not defending Team17 or THQ but Worms is fun, bottom line, and I need an update to worms armeggedon which was the last good worms game. This looks to be promising to replace that game. Don't complain if you don't have any friends to play with and you are probably just mad because when your friends are around (in person) you can't just cut your connection and quit when you are about to lose. That last part was a joke for those who do not have a sense of humor.
I will buy this game when it hits the 30 dollar or less mark!
That is my take on this fiasco!
