Spelunker looks like an arcade game I liked called Bagman (or Super Bagman). I checked it out on You Tube and it's similar but not the same. I'm curious to see what David thinks of it.

Ugh
Spelunker...
This is a game where after losing your life 3 times you start the entire game over again, no matter how far you've gotten. And losing your life is as easy as touching any seemingly innocuous object in your path.
Every object is an obstacle in this game.
Did I mention it's not fun? Well, it's not.
In my life of gaming this Spelunker is the worst game I have ever experienced, save for Chakkan on the Genesis which I couldn't discern the objective of.
Do not buy Spelunker under any circumstances!

Oh Em Gee! YES. And as awful as the game is, and impossible, there's this part of me, I guess one that wants the pain and punishment, that can't put it down. It's nostalgic too, but I dunno.
I don't think I ever made it past the 2nd level.. and i'm talking recently too!!!

Thanks for the heads-up S. No spelunking for me. Super R-Type however rocks pretty damn hard! And if my memory serves, it IS pretty damn hard. I think I got to the 4th or 5th level by the skin of my teeth, as a kid, then died horribly.

Just Re-reading my post and thinking about the fact that Nintendo allowed this to be released.
It really pisses me off that they would re-release Shit. Re-release good games, re-release successful games, re-release games that were ahead of their time, but there is no reason to Re-release a dried up old turd. I don't know who made the game and I don't care. I hold Nintendo responsible due to the extent of the stink.
This game shouldn't have been released back in 1980-whatever and now it's back in 2008?!?
Open statement to Nintendo:
You come off as a bunch of Grifters, re-releasing this. Once is permissable, but re-release implies the #2.
Please make sure to NOT release Chakkan for the Genesis. Use the leverage of internal politics if necessary and save some face with your customers.

Huh. As hard as Spelunker is, and I didn't get very far at it. I still kind of liked it. I may actually download it one of these days.
