This week shows another pair of titles hitting the Wii's Virtual Console service, providing gamers with some NES and SNES action. Sadly, we get another shooter, but the other title on offer is a fairly unique title. Hit up the video above, then head past the break for some more.

Super R-Type (Super NES, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: download it!
Super R-Type is a good game, but it comes at a bad time. The Virtual Console has been flooded with shooter after shooter, so I find myself to be a bit sour on the genre right now. The game has a lot to offer fans of the genre and likely fills a large part of many a gamer's nostalgic heart, but if you're only going to go with one game this week, I'd suggest Spelunker.

Spelunker (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: download it!
Spelunker is both a fun game, and an unforgiving one. You die a lot in Spelunker, so those that may find themselves frustrated at that concept need not apply. It has some very tight controls and has been largely playable for the entirety of the time I've had with it. Sometimes it's really aggravating to slip on a jump or walk off of the edge of a platform, but you keep coming back for more.
That concludes our look at this week's Virtual Console games. As always, if you have any tips or rumors regarding Nintendo's Virtual Console service, be sure to let us know and come back next week when we take a look at the latest titles available on the Nintendo Wii!

Why don't you buy an SD card. I picked a 2GB card up for 6.99 online. It has over 15000 blocks, I think that's an ideal solution.

@ Paul: SD cards would be a viable solution if Nintendo would release a firmweare upgrade to make them as easy to access as the Wii's internal memory but for now it's a nuisance to move things onto and off of SD cards whenever you want to use them. When I first loaded SSBB, it told me that I was out of space so I deleted the Internet channel.

sd cards can't be read from the wii as memory. i want something i can store my vc games on and not have to delete and copy them so i can access all my games without having to copy them back onto the wii's memory.

David Hinkle sour on the schmup genre? It cannot be!
In all seriousness, though, I'm glad to hear at least SOMEBODY besides me enjoys Spelunker, despite its oh so unforgiving nature.

I'm surprised a game of Super R-Type's quality came out so soon after Smash Bros. Still, I don't plan on buying any more Virtual Console games for a long while unless something really awesome comes out (I'm talking Zombies Ate My Neighbors type of awesome). Smash Bros. and Mario Kart are gonna be enough to keep me busy for a long, long time~

I'm not buying another one until they give me a good RPG game or Mortal Kombat 3. I'd also buy the first Mario Party and Mario Golf 64, but not right away.
