And no, not in the way you would expect Brawl to rewrite history. Instead, forum posters over at NSider2 have (allegedly) discovered an unusual glitch in replays of their fights, namely that said replays are showing totally different fights. While the characters and stage remain the same, the moves being executed and the eventual victor are often different.
To demonstrate this, NSider2 member Warchamp7 uploaded a video of the glitch in action (which he finds "very scary"), and the replays do seem to vary. Barmy stuff. So far, this has only occurred on a particular custom-made stage, and not on any of the game's default, Nintendo-themed levels.
Due to the wonders of video-editing and it being that time of year again, we're marking this down as a rumor, but has anyone here encountered similar issues?

The source is NSider2. No one should be shocked. Let's just hope that no one in the thread cut themselves over it yet.

Riiiiiiight. Sure thing man. Then how come EVERY TIME I watch replays (I watch them a lot to learn how my friends fight/how to imporve/ etc.) It's always the same. The victors always the same. The insane fights never change.

It isn't impossible, considering the means it uses to save replays. If it forgets a few commands or events and switches them around, the game engine could come up with a different outcome

that video up above..
doesn't he say that 'you can see it's the exact same replay'
when it totally isn't?
the first one was 21 i think?
and the second was 20.
maybe i'm mistaken..

Almost. The first two times the replay is number 21, then on the third and final replay when his "camera dies" the replay is number 20.

I noticed it too. He's definitely playing different replays. The first two times are the last replay in the list (#21, there's nothing to the right of the selection) and at the end of the video after the replay ends and it takes him back to the menu, #20 is selected with #21 sitting to its right.
Failed attempt.

The two replays have the exact same date and time. Close examination can show that they are virtually identical in gameplay as well, up until the point where Falco KO's kirby with an up smash in the third one kicking him straight up, but kicks him to the right in the first two videos.

That's not a good argument, because you can make your Wii think it is whatever time you want it to. This is a fake, even if the beginning is almost identical.

Doesn't it record matches the same way Super Mario Advance 4 recorded levels? As in it records button presses and the like as opposed to recording actual videos? I remember I used an Action Replay and during a level I used a button combo to get a cape, and then when I recorded it and watched it the recorded version didn't get a cape and then ended up falling down a pit or something. It was amusing.

I suppose it is possible... I have had a similar problem with replays on a snes emulator but that video looks rather fake

That last line "Something is very wrong guys, and it's very scary" is one of the stupidest thing I've heard.
On a related note I could see how it might happen with the falling block in the center. If I remember correctly after a race in Mario Kart on the SNES you could replay the race, and I found out that on one of the beach levels if you drive under a jumping fish during the race, and watch the replay, your cart will sometimes hit the fish and spin out. The entire replay is thrown off after that and you'd wind up driving into the water and losing the race.

Remember, NSider2 and NSiderForums.net are all ex-NSiders. They've said dumber stuff in the past. Undoubtedly the reason Nintendo shut the original forums down, since they're all an embarrassment to the corporate types.

Suddenly, a man bursts into your house, holds a gun to your head, and demands that you tell him who won every match that you've saved as a replay.
THINK ABOUT IT MAN. YOUR LIFE COULD THEORETICALLY BE AT STAKE HERE.

The only glitch I do know of involves the Bridge of Eldin, a Smash Ball, and Jigglypuff.
Have the puff grab the smash ball, wait for the Twilight Portal to start reforming the bridge, jump in the gap with puff, and unleash smash ball. If done correctly, the bridge will stun puff as she grows big, and she'll stay huge, but will be able to fight again in that form! Yet moving is near impossible, as you can easily kill yourself on the sides...
Props to little bro for finding this.

Um, yeah, not incredibly weird. I've had a few matches on custom made stages play a little differently when replaying... it's simply saving the button combinations, and the custom stages kinda throw it off sometimes, so it's understandable. If it messes up in even one place, the whole video will be thrown off and look different. (Example, mistakes ->B then first, so it runs right, then hits

I used to experience different replays on Starcraft (maybe it was Warcraft III... it's been awhile...) it was really funny, I would completely whoop the computer and in the replay the computer would just waste me! Will have to play around with the Brawl replays later.

As good as the replay data CAN get, with as much compression as they're probably using, there's bound to be a couple of slight discrepancies..
If you're playing, and move the analogue stick from 0 to 256, the game might catch it at 0, 64, 128, 176 and 256.. Note, that's not a sequence..
But it's "near enough" so the replay engine might say something like "0->256 in 5 steps".
This might "look" ok, but it'll be ever so slightly out of sync. Like how video compression occasionally gets those weird splodgy squares and things, until the next keyframe hits.
Things like that are bound to happen, and the only way it won't is if you record every single possible frame of data, and reuse it exactly. And.. well.. you can't compress that too well!

@ Mr. ESC: I think you mean "temporal events sequence," not "temporally venced sequence." Venced is not even a word (in English, anyway - it does mean "you win" in Spanish, though).

The two replays, 21 and 20, play exactly the same until a point when Kirby *should* be killed. Even after that, you'll notice that Falco uses the same moves at exactly the same times that he would otherwise, but in the wrong place. The two replays have the same time and date stamp also.
It's likely that he's telling the truth in his video description when he says that he got rid of an old replay that he didn't want anymore in between.

And in the falco one he doesnt use the reflector the 2nd time, I think.

Oh hello, I'm getting linked on other sites. Coolio
Thank you YouTube redesign with places linking to your videos haha
And yeah, they are the same replays. I had deleted an old home run contest video so the numbers changed. As many have debated, the same moves happen at the same times : /
I plan to go again without any cropping at all to ease the minds of skeptics. In fact, I think I'll go do that now
