That seems like a lot of money for a plastic shell, don't you think? It's true that the Wii Zapper costs more, but at least that comes with a Link's Crossbow Training pack-in. Plus, we don't think we're being too hypocritical, considering we haven't bough ourselves a Zapper, either.
Mario Kart Wii will come with a Wii Wheel, so if you find the experience of playing with it to be incredibly awesome, you might decide to fork over the extra cash to buy some more. Being the cheapskates we are, though, we'd much rather get used to playing with the Wiimote alone, or just hook-up our GameCube or Classic controllers.

Do you know what $5 can get you in college? A decent meal. And if you're willing to toss that away, it means you must be doing well in your job. ...for the rest of us who are cursed with 2 systems and in college: $15 is a do-or-die option.

Video games are actually cheaper than my other hobbies... Being the jack-of-all-trades that I am, I have more hobbies than I can count... ...so video games are cheaper since they'll distract me FROM the other hobbies that could cost a LOT more. X_X
$15 is a lot for the poor man and the satisfied man.
... I'm clearly satisfied with the things that I have, but I always like the idea of "extra"... and that "extra" happens to start at $15...
... wish I had some "extra" cash to go with that. :/

15$ is much for that when I can pick up a used PS2 game for that price. Sure, 15$ won't get you a car, or even a full tank of gas, but it'll get you a lot more money if properly invested, or it'll get you the already existant nyko Wii wheel and 5$ change.
Seriously, it's a bit much to claim that 15$ is nothing, it's all a matter of comparitive valuation, what else can 15$ get me? A tonne more than a crappy piece of plastic, that's for sure.

What a rip off!
I too have forgone the overprices zapper and instead got the Nyko gun on sale form much less. Its really nice for Ghost Squad.
Although I wish GS let you choose a button other than A to use for menus, would rather map it to either C or Z on the nunchuck.

Personally I like the fact that Nintendo is catering to those that want the new motion controls and fellow sticks-in-the-mud (such as myself) who prefer the "normal" controls that I've used for over 20 years.
Mario Galaxy was the perfect game for Wii controls.
SSB Brawl was the perfect game to leave alone (control-wise).
Mario Kart is in that grey area where I could go either way.

$15 may not be a large sum of money, but it adds up if you are trying to support four players. That's $45 or almost the cost of another game. Still, I suspect that many stores will sell it for a discounted $10 price.

15$? that means in Europe it's probably gonna be at least 15 euro. 19,99 sound like a good bet. But you do get one for free with Mario Kart. Plus you can also play the game with the other controllers so it's not like anyone is forcing you to buy this.
Oh and 2$ for making this thing? Just the wheel maybe. But it's probably gonna come with a shipload of manuals in all kind of languages, warning and warranty booklets and other stuff. Plus it's bulky so add a bit more on packaging. Than add several shippings and a nice margin for the retailer and voila....15$.
And ofcourse this price isn't just based on the value of the underlying product. You also pay for the Nintendo brand. And it's priced against other products (racewheels as well as other accesoires).
