Well I have never broken a strap, new or old, but the little plastic piece on the Wiimote that you loop the strap through is within an inch of its life because of dumb friend spinning the Wiimote by the strap...DON'T DO IT!!!!

Well, I have to Wiimotes prepared:
The first is the "ProMote", which has no strap at all and also doesn't have the jacket. It's only used by myself and after 1.5 years of use, it's still in perfect condition.
the second is the "SafetyMote" with the mos recent strap and the official jacket. This is what I give to my guests, especially when they're drunk ;)

For the most part I have stopped using the wrist straps. I don't even think a game has come out in the past six months that even warrants the use of the strap. All of the newer games that I have played has had very little to do with motion control with most just being a flick of the wrist. Come to think of it, I believe that Wii Sports is the only game that has required wild swinging of the arms other than a few third party sports games. Wario Ware did require the wrist strap for some of it's mini games being the ones that required you to drop the remote but I believe that is about is.

You should try Rayman Raving Rabbids.
From all Wii games, I think this is the most "swinging intensive".

I never sent in for the bigger straps. I'm kinda thinking that the thin ones will be rare and collectable one day as they were only made for a couple months. :)
As far as needing it? No... but i sit put the strap on and tighten it when i play, silly i know, but it feels kinda right to have it on there.. kinda like having a watch on. when it's not there it just feels wrong.
It's funny too as when i play I'll periodically reach over to re-tighten it everyonce in a while lol. I have gotten better about that though recently. I actually played Zack and Wiki last time without the strap on my wrist because i forgot and I didn't notice until an hour later lol.

Sounds like to me that you have some OCD issues. The amount of detail you use just to describe your wrist strap habits is amazing. Also if you thing the original straps will be a collector item then wouldn't you want to keep them some place safe and not use them.

And it sounds like to me you're just a rude sob lol.
I don't think I was being overly detailed at all, just telling my story.
there are people with far larger posts than my own. After all.. he asked us to speak about it, so I am. And the collecting comment was a joke man, you don't take sarcasm well it seems... maybe you're being a bit overly serious... maybe from a drug addiction!!!???
:rolls eyes:

If it's anything, Orion I don't think you have OCD. I believe you're OCD-less.
And Jeremy, I don't think you have a drug addiction.
We're all beautiful people, man.

I am not to sure were you get I don't take sarcasm very well. I was just commenting on the detail you used to describe putting a wrist strap on and then adjusting it as you play a game. I was in no way trying to be offensive and my comment was in no way to be taken seriously. I found humor in what you said and I was just adding to the humor at your expense. Sorry if I did hit a nerve about the OCD comment but it was to be taken with a grain of salt.

Dude,
I totally always have to have the strap on--you're right, it's like a watch. It feels wrong when it's not on and all cinched up.
So, yeah,

I use the strap, but not when I'm using the zapper or classic controller with the nyko clip. The 4th gen straps are the best ones because they have the locking clasp, and you don't have to worry about them slipping. It's not as painful as some say to just put the strap on so you don't have to worry about any mishaps.

You people and taking off your Wiimote straps...
You're a bad influence for the younger children (whom you've already badly influenced... I mean look at them, they're not even wearing their Wiistraps correctly! you're supposed to tighten it to your wrist, y'know... )...
Well, unless you don't like the motion controls, you really have no reason to not wear a strap.
A) It's not uncomfortable. Wear it for more than an hour and you won't even remember it's there.
B) It doesn't get in the way unless you're holding any form of gun-shaped wii-mote holster, always trying to do high fives with your friends (which you can always use your other hand for), always trying to punch the wall (like I said, you have another hand for that), or trying to flip the Wiimote in the air (dude, no one likes a showoff).
C) "Think of the children!" ... those friggin' retarded kids who toss their Wiimotes at 90 mph and actually LET GO! WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU LET GO OF IT?!!! ... so, think about the stupid kids in the world: wear the Wiistrap.
Besides, it's nice to wear when you're suddenly called to do something and you were just going to drop it on the floor... possibly losing it. The strap-tug reminds you "hey stupid, put the Wiimote on a table!"... at least, that's what it reminds me.

I do use the straps, but they are the 2nd version...I never sent off for anything after that...not even the 'jackets'.
I DO use the strap, but it really depends on the game...SMG/NMH/MP3, I use the strap. Wii Menu/Everybody Votes/Check Mii Out channels...no straps.
I mainly use the strap to keep the loose end from flying around and 'whipping' my arm.
BUT...anyone who is new to the Wii, I make them use the strap their entire play time.

I sent for the jackets and they never came! Waaah! I do have a Wiimote with jacket, that came with (shut up) WiiPlay. Yes, I bought WiiPlay. I'm a tool.
I have the beefier straps (Nintendo actually bothered to ship *those* to me), and, whatevs. I don't think my original straps were in any danger of breaking. Like Orion, I do tend to put the strap around my wrist, but except on Wiimote-intensive games like Rayman, Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, etc., I don't think it's really necessary. And I don't think I've ever been in danger of flinging the Wiimote across the room, at least not accidentally.

Miranda, you're not a tool.... according to guinness book of records gaming edition wii play is the second most purchased game for the wii and has sold 6.5 million copies..... Everyone bought it for the extra wiimote......
Also, I never received my jackets either.... thought I must have done something wrong.... good to know I'm not the only one.

It's the idea of being a good example. :P
Enough of the older kids keep saying "I don't need the strap while I'm flinging my arms around" that the kids say "Psh, I don't need them too!"... and what do you get? Another retarded YouTube video of some clumsy (or possibly mentally-challenged) kid smashing the Wiimote against their flat-screen, with a bunch of PS3 FANATIC nobs screaming "See?! The Wii's GAY! Nintendo's WEAK! YOU'RE ALL INFERIOR TO ME!!"...
...and that's enough to make me put my strap on. :P

I haven't broken the thick ones yet, but the way I broke my original strap would have easily torn the thick one to pieces as well. I was playing baseball on Wii Sports, and being a baseball player myself, I gripped the remote with two hands and...followed through. The next thing I knew I was holding the remote in my left hand with the busted strap just dangling on my right wrist...I'll stick to real baseball for now.
