NMS 08: Mario Super Sluggers sliding into homes this year
Nintendo of America's Bill Trinen demonstrated the game for press in attendance, showing unique fielding mechanics in which shaking the Wiimote signals the fielders to go, and a throwing motion sends the ball to the correct base. Pitching and batting seem to be pretty much what you'd expect!
According to IGN, the cast will include the usual suspects: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, the Wario Bros, Donkey Kong, Baby Mario, Toad, Toadette, Boo, and a Shyguy. More details about Sluggers should come out sometime next week.

Expect a Mario Golf and Mario Tennis equivalent at some point as well. I kinda figured this would happen, but it's pretty interesting that they'd release the baseball game before tennis...

I'm waiting on the Mario Golf game. I hope they bring back mini golf like in the N64.

Eh, Mario Superstar Baseball was far less polished, and felt much more like a derivative, than Power Tennis, Toadstool Tour, and the delicious Strikers
Not really gonna look at this one

Agreed. The Namco-developed Mario Superstar Baseball on the Cube was boring, and didn't have the same magic that Camelot and Next Level Games have brought to the Mario Golf, Tennis and Strikers series.
Namco has a lot of brand repair to do on this title if I'm going to buy this or recommend to anyone.

Agreed. I'll still take a look, but I'll definitely rent it instead of just going out and buying it like I've always done with the Mario Sports games.

It's better than Wii Sports 2, with only just more sports.

I was kind of excited when I first read about it, but the details definitely change my tune. "Shaking the remote makes the player throw the ball to the correct base".. You don't even get to decide where you throw the ball? What about trying to use strategy? Basically it sounds like you could be sitting on the couch with a blindfold on, shaking the wii remote to play this game.

I seem to be the only one to post to this effect positively.... I loved the mario baseball game for the cube..... all the missions were fun... and some damn near impossible... I'm really excited for a wii release, although I have to admit... the controller swinging/shaking is a little worrisome...
