You might have noticed a bit of a change to our video coverage of this week's Virtual Console games. You see, no more are we confined to off-screen recording of the Virtual Console releases. That's right, we've upgraded to technology widely available since 2004. We're so modern!
Hit up the new video format above and then head past the break for the rest of our usual goodness.
Many of you likely remember Fantasy Zone as one of your childhood favorites. It has a very unique art style, visible in the large, bright backdrops and cartoonish sprites that permeate the levels. It's still just a shooter, at its core, and a very fine one. Sure, the VC may be overflowing with shooters at the moment, but this one is still worth checking out.

Mega Turrican (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: download it!
Mega Turrican distinguishes itself from the SNES entry available on the Virtual Console in many ways. For one, no freeze beam here in MT. Also, in the Genesis version, you can swing around the levels, thanks to a trusty rope that you can use to access otherwise unreachable areas. Overall, though, it still follows the basic "shoot everything, everywhere" formula and, for that, offers up a fun time. If you have the extra coin, we suggest you check this out.
That concludes our look at this week's Virtual Console games. As always, if you have any tips or rumors regarding Nintendo's Virtual Console service, be sure to let us know and come back next week when we take a look at the latest titles available on the Nintendo Wii!

Why no video commentary this time?

What's the point of a video capture if you're not going to do a commentary. This is almost pointless, as you could get the same amount of information for a YouTube search. Very disappointing.
If you're going to incoporate a true video capture, than you should have the audio from the game as well as a commentary. Just record the video as is, then as you're watching it record a vocal track of just the commentary. After that just merge the two together and it should sound pretty decent.
I hope next weeks VC Monday Madness is better.

Or maybe just go back to the old way. I didn't find any problems with your previous videos, David Hinkle. They were good the way they were.

You might be the only one, as many have been calling for me to get with the times.
Personally, I thought the video quality was getting crap on my digicam, so I wanted to upgrade to something better. Also, with the direct capture, I can do other video content for the site that, in the long run, might be more enjoyable for you all to check out. What kind of content? Well, I'm not 100% certain yet. Why don't you tell me what you want to see?

I really didn't like the video. As somewhat stated before, I might as well look it up on youtube. I actually enjoy the offscreen commentary because its what sets it apart from other online reviews. Why read when you can listen?

Sorry guys, I forgot to mention that I couldn't find my mic. I did some redecorating in my office this weekend and it got lost in the shuffle. I'll find it and commentary will be back next week.
Here's the setup, if you're curious:

So hopefully the video will be more to your liking next week. Sorry again all!

I'm glad commentary will be back next week, it's half the reason to watch the video in the first place.

Awesome! I hate when that happens. More power to the commentary!

I don't think anyone had a problem with the new video capture, it was just the lack of commentary that drew the complaints. Good to hear the commentary will be back next week with the new video quality!

So Hinkle what do you say, Mega Turrican or Super Turrican?

The swinging mechanic is fun and definitely wins out over the freeze ability in Super Turrican. But, I would say that Super Turrican has smoother platforming (trying to use the rope felt clumsy to me sometimes, but that may be just my horrible "abilities"). In the end, they're both fine games that would need further analysis than a single comment from myself could provide.

Hey, it's all cool David. I was just concerned that you might have completely ditched voice commentary all together. I like watching your weekly video because of the commentary.

No commentary? Pass. Also, I don't see what's so great about Fantasy Zone AT ALL. Seriously, it looks HORRIBLE. Not even kinda good. What's with the constant beeping sound effect. Everything about that game drove me crazy. Was that boss even taking damage? Bring back the commentary.

You can see the damage in the change of his mouth's color. And commentary WILL be back next week, as stated.
