Yesterday was a banner day for Wii homebrew. In addition to WiiPaint, a load of console emulators designed for Twilight Hacked Wiis were also unveiled, and DCEmu has rounded them up. They're all based on existing Gamecube-based emulators, but have been extended for the Wii to take advantage of features like the Classic Controller and the Wii's 480p output. Lopst's and RobertFC's ports of SNES9x even allow you to use the Wiimote! In case you always wondered what it would be like to have a really hard time playing an SNES game.In addition to an SNES emulator, new PC Engine/Turbografx-16, Genesis (with Sega CD!), and Game Boy (which installs into a channel) emulators are now available.

So, just to clarify, if I wanted to use these, would I have to forever stop running firmware updates, or what? I don't *really* care, since I have VC, or could theoretically run some emulators on my PS3 if I bothered to install Linux (without voiding my warranty, natch), but I'd be interested to know.

No, if you update the wii this will not stop the twlight hack therefore after the update the emulators will still work.
There is no way for nintendo to stop the twilight hack.
Nintendo updates are useless they will never stop homebrew!!!

I'm not worried about when Nintendo will block homebrew, but how....
If its an update that bricks your Wii, then ouch.
As for the emus, I'd gladly pay for Super Mario RPG, or Chrono Trigger if they were available on the Virtual Console... Seeing how they're not (and there isn't even a date set....)

Alright, who the hell are the idiots who decided to make emulators usable with the Twilight Hack? Great job assholes, you pretty much guaranteed Nintendo will release an update to block the Twilight Hack. No more innocent Homebrewing. Good job.

I second that... I read a step by step thing somewhere once on it, but I must be retarded or something cuz I just wasn't comprehending it. The idea of rocking some old Chrono Trigger or FFIII with my girl seems most awesome to me... or maybe just some Zombies Ate My Neighbors since they don't seem to want to give us any quality games (lately) for the VC. River City Ransom being the one exception over the last month or more.

Their fault for not releasing those games on the VC in the first place. As a result, people resorted to making emulators for the wii. Whether doing so it legal or not is quite debatible. Frankly, if I ever get an SD card and the Twilight Hack, I'd be more than happy and use it. That's right, Nintendo! I'm gonna play Chrono Trigger via the Wii!

Nintendo Wii "Fanboy," promoting piracy since its inception.
Nice to know Nintendo "fans" are so utterly disrespectful of Nintendo's intellectual property rights and the company's own goals and expressed wishes.
