Remember that engine that High Voltage made for the Wii? The one with the nice water effects? Well, it looks like that engine, Quantum3, is now available to developers working with the Wii. This new middleware should hopefully help developers create some amazing experiences on the console."Most Wii games don't even look as good as the later day PS2 titles and that's a real slap in the face to consumers," says High Voltage CEO Kerry Ganofsky. "We believe that third-party developers need to step up to the plate and deliver. The Wii platform is capable of a lot more than what consumers have seen so far. We're hoping to raise a new bar." No word on any upcoming games using Quantum3 yet, but we can't wait to see the next project that does.
Update: Removed previous image as some found it to be toeing the line a bit. Sorry about that, folks!

Is that above image even legal to put up with so many young readers??? O_o
Other than that - I'm glad someone's trying to work the graphic's end of the Wii. Now all we need are more companies trying to work the control's end of the Wii... cuz seriously, how many Wii games have awful controls?

This can only be a good thing. Let just hope developers don't start making more shovelware with it.

CAPTAIN PLANET!!!! Protect the environment, or I'll f***ing KILL you! Ah, Robot Chicken. Endless well of amusement.
Anyways, back to the topic at hand. I couldn't be more happy that they've released that engine. Now developers will have to actually..... WORK...To get people to buy their games!!! (blasphemy! Work to make money? Who does that nowadays?)
Lets just hope they have great gameplay, and these graphics will make them even better.

I really wish Nintendo released middleware. It's not in the interests of their 1st party software, but it would be nice for us.

I demand that Captain Planet gets his own game with this engine. It should be sponsored by Al Gore, and the game would involve putting out fires and a microphone attachment would allow you to say, "The power is YOURS!"

Damnit! I thought there was going to be a new Captain Planet game. One that would be on the Wii. It would no doubtedly be better than the one for the original NES.

I constantly say that the Wii is capable of more, but this tech demo barely shows of the wiis power, I do like the refraction and reflection effects though but the bump map for the water effect is rather crap, and we didn't get to see animated people or even what sorta physics this engine has. Anyway Wii is capable of Xbox 360 level of graphics just with lower res tecxtures, and no HD, that's pretty much the only diffrence, Wii is capable of self shading.
