Three high-level members of Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios have left the company. Design director Mark Pacini, art director Todd Keller, and technology engineer Jack Mathews' last day at the Austin-based, Nintendo-owned developer was Friday. Shacknews speculates that the three are going to start a new company, which is certainly more likely than the three of them simultaneously tiring of game development.Retro's last released project was, of course, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, after which Pacini said the company would be working on non-Metroid projects. Apparently, even that wasn't enough change for these three -- or they just feared for the condition of their tea tables.
(Yes, the title is a Super Metroid reference and not a Metroid Prime reference. Close enough.)

What could be a more successful [silver medal] title than the glory that is Metroid? Mario? Zelda? *scoff* I think not.
[Note that I am an extremely huge Metroid fan] I say, crappy multiplayer or not, those three should have stayed on the Metroid campaign.

Yes, I indeed HATE THAT.
Seriously kid, "First Posts" get you nothing. You don't grow taller, and they will definitely not help you get out of your mom's basement any sooner.
They do angry readers, and the readers that are already angry might take that chance to let you know their mind.

I completely agree with Nushio, but to be fair, I ALWAYS let people know what is on my mind. Read half of my posts and you'll know that lol. "First Posts" aren't for "glory" or anything really. Grow up maybe?

Considering the first and third games were a financial success, I don't see why Nintendo couldn't give us more Primey goodness. Oh well ...
*plays Metroid Prime 3*
Ahh, that's better. :)

Hmm, kinda think Metroid Prime 3 is much another FPS than another Metroid game. But yea, my favourite Metroid game would be outa Metroid 2: Return of Samus and Super Metroid.

I mean, it has some very cool environments and such, but otherwise...
Anyhows I dunno, just didn't seem to take a liking to the cutscenes and what I thought to be lifeless folks without personality at the base that talk like folks in some other FPS games I've played.
But yea, I just thought it lost the essence of Metroid ;).

Hopefully Nintendo is getting their E&D or some other company to release a new FPS Metroid game (or a Super Metroid-esqe game for the DS)
Though, Joystiq said they were "escorted off of the premises". Makes you crave extra details!

Nintendo never said the Metroid series was over, just the Prime trilogy has ended. Expect many more Metroid games to come. Perhaps this is why those top three left, they were dead inside from all the "back tracking."

I want a Metroid V.
As for Metroidy goodness, I want some more innovation in the 2D series. I am bit depressed seeing alot of the same things happening again and again in Metroid games. Zero mission and Fusion were a bit dissapointing, as they offered not much new.

The MP trilogy is not an FPS, it's an action/adventure series.
Anyway, this sucks but at least the trilogy is complete. I'm looking forward to whatever this team ends up doing as they've had some really good ideas in the past.
At this point, I'd say a third-person Metroid game might be welcome. As for me personally, I'll never get tired of the 2D Metroids (Or Castlevania for that matter) They could rehash them until the end of time and I'd still play and love all of them. The formula never gets old for me.
Also, seconding Metroid V and a remake of II.

Nintendo calls it a "First Person Adventure" cause it has Zelda-like elements and FPS-like elements

I'd probably play the next Metroid if Intelligent Systems worked on it again, they are the ones who did Super Metroid.

Some general idea for "New Items"
MORE GRAPPLE BEAM. I want to see more advanced areas, and I would actually like to see something that may sound bad, but it would actually make things interesting.
Give the Grapple Beam 99 seconds of use max. Also make it more powerful, for this reason (Be a bit more powerful than the actual weapon beams, given that it is harder to use. Also allow an electric hold attack, that keeps you stationary, but you can use your grapple beam and hold your enemy in the grapple beam, manuvering it. (Granted, some enemies wouldn't be affected) This would be a great way to activate switches you can't get to, and also it would be pretty damn awesome, with throwing weak enemies or spiked enemies at harder foes for additional damage. Also, this could make for a very interesting boss fight! As for the beam itself, it would restore 1 second of energy for every 2 seconds of not using it.
Also, you could throw in an optional Max Grapple Beam, which eliminates the time restraint, then this could be used for LONGER Grapple Beam puzzles which are extremely hard/impossible with the timed Grapple Beam. Of course, this would be found near the end of the game.
Also, I liked Super Metroid's Beam Special attacks, (Charge Beam + Powerbomb + Beam Type), but I felt they were severely underpowered considering you are using a Power Bomb.
Like, lets see the ice beam work like Metroid Fusion's Ice Diffusion Super Missiles (Actually, if Metroid V takes place after Fusion, we might as well just have Ice Diffusion Super Missiles. Ranting on at the end...)
A regular Charge Shot could give a full-blast about the size of Samus that does Super Missle damage in any way Samus is pointing the cannon.
And also for other beams (no idea for others, yet)
My point is: There is NO REASON a Charge Shot and Power Bomb should be used for something much weaker than a power bomb, you know what I mean?
Anyway, just a few ideas.
The return of the Spider Ball would be nice, but I can see that ruining alot of secret rooms.
For the Fusion Rant, what ticked me off, was the fact that Super Missles just upgraded your missles. I really enjoy the fact that YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS with a super missles because you have a small amount of them. This really thows the balance off and just turns in into a reckless missle-shooting machine in certain situations (Especially Ridley)
Anyway, man, thats alot of text, eh?
