Sega Superstars Tennis bombs, marked down to $20
Despite our enthusiasm (and the enthusiasm of Sega fanboys everywhere) over Sega Superstars Tennis, a release that drips with fan service, the game failed to inspire consumers to rush out and buy the game like they did with Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games? Not enough Mario, perhaps? Or olympics?
Whatever the case, slow sales for the tennis title has given GameStop early cause to slash its prices for Sega Superstars Tennis across all platforms, and you can now buy the Wii game for as little as $19.99. It's a great bargain, considering the game was released only a month ago! You can order Sega Superstars Tennis through GameStop's online shop, but why not save a few bucks and pick it up at one of the retailer's local stores?

Its because the controls are horrible whether you use the wii remote or not that this bombed. Swinging the remote just acts as a button press, and doesn't control where the ball goes at all, and even using the buttons instead, the timing is slightly bad.

We would have gladly spent $50 if they had nailed down Wiisports-esque tennis controls/timing. With the way it is setup, not even worth 20 bucks.

A shame. I was afraid this would be plagued by some problem.

I'm an old school sega nerd but, the gameplay is just boring. I played the PS3 one at my friends house. Sadly in this case, gameplay trumps characters. Now I'm gonna spend that $20 on Space Channel 5 2.

It sold over a million... But it was on all the platforms together.
Still seems profitable to me, atleast. I thought it was good, just not great.

so wii tennis trumps this? that's a shame.. i was thinking of getting this, but if it's not fun to control maybe not. I was really excited about having Jet Grind Radio characters on a nintendo system, but maybe it's not worth it.
so when you swing it doesn't take the way you swing, or how hard into consideration? so how do you change from strong to soft hits then?
Idk, 20 bucks is really tempting, but if im never going to play it, maybe it's 20 bucks better not spent...

I guess they felt like they had to cling onto the typical Virtua Tennis gameplay which has you tapping the button before the ball gets to you. Fine for traditional controls but with motion, you swing then seconds later the character swings, very awful delay.

hmm yea that would annoy me. I'd ask if it gave classic control options, but.. if it's for the wii, why would i even want classic control.
also, i just remembered this has online.... too many strikes against it, i'll use that 20 bucks on Castle of Shikigami III instead.

I don't care what people say, I LIKED this game. It's fun and built by the Virtua Tennis 3 Team. While it feels different than VT3, I still think it's a good game. People don't give Sega games a shot any more. People said Sonic Heroes sucked, and it was a really great game. Sega still produces quality games, and to be honest, Mario games have really sucked lately. I'm sure I'm the only person here who isn't excited for Mario Kart Wii. I like how Sega keeps changing and keeping their games fresh, and the music is stellar. That's certainly something Mario can't say. I've been so sick of Mario music since after Mario Kart 64 (my first game for N64), and it isn't getting any better.
I like Sega games and I'm tired of reviewers and others not giving them a chance. Sure, the motion controls on Sega Superstars Tennis aren't perfect, so I used the classic controller. It doesn't stop it from being a worthwhile game, especially at this price point. I'm so much more satisfied with this purchase than I was with Condemned 2, F.E.A.R., and the recent Mario games (excluding New Super Mario Bros.).
So rather than trust reviews, why don't you rent the game first? Give it a try! I enjoy videogames, which is why I play the ones that aren't so big-name. It's only by playing non big-name games that you discover true gems. Screw Metal Gear, screw Mario & Friends sports games, and screw Halo. I'll be playing my copy of Eternal Darkness, Sega Superstars Tennis, Prey, and Full Auto. You can have your Sack and Wiki, Trauma Center and all that.

Not all of us have the time and/or the money to play every game that comes out, so I at least (and I'm sure others) use the reviews to filter out a lot of games. I don't just stare at the number either if I read the review and think it will be good then I consider it, but when numerous sources say it's bad, no buy for me. Not even a rental. Plus you even said yourself, the motion controls dont work!

Nobody ever said that you didn't like the game. We're saying that we can't stand it. The controls are god-awful, and there's no way to gloss over it.
Or how about the terrible game modes? Tour Mode nothing but a ton of minigames with a few full tennis games thrown in.
Or you can play a single game.
The unlockables are bloody awful as well.
I WANTED to like this game. I really did. I played it longer than I really wanted to in the hopes that it would grow on me. It didn't, and the game is awful.

This game is fun to me. Maybe all of you that play this game just suck at it. My friend was playing and he sucked hard. Terrible timing by him and he blamed the controls. I used the Remote/Nunchuk combo and the thing worked perfect to me. I loved the JSR courts and the House of Dead. Def worth the 20 bucks...but I went into my local Gamestop and it was still 50.
