I'm enjoying constantly falling off the edges in the SNES Ghost House again.
...oh, the memories that brings back!

yeah, as much as i hated the ghost houses in the SNES Kart (let alone SMW) it's a fun course to replay. particularly on a bike.

I am not a fan of DK Summit that's for sure! I'm also not interested in the desert levels. I do like just about everything else. My personal favorite of the retro tracks is Delfino Square and of the new tracks, Coconut Mall. I really like the Mii integration as well as the alternative routes. Though I am a fan of many of the new tracks, the old tracks are still just as fun.

I was playing with my brother-in-law last night and we were cursing his mom, who was one of the Miis in the parking lot cutting us off.

I'm a fan of Koopa Cape and Coconut Mall. Rainbow Road on this game is better than the old rainbow road.

Baby Park!
Wait, no, that track was egregiously left out of this iteration. I really like Delfino Plaza and Maple Treeway is gorgeous, I just wish there was a simple loop like Baby Park; we always had the most fun on that track because the race can turn around at any moment.

I only picked it up for 2 hours yesterday, so I can't say I have a favorite new track, but I don't know if it's just the controls aren't as tight as on the DS or if it's been that long since I played Mario Kart, but I keep falling off of the edges or riding against the wall in every track, even in the 50cc courses. I was taking on 150cc's on the DS without even breaking a sweat, and only cursing when I'd be blue shelled 3 times in a row. I'm going to try the classic controller today, but does anyone else feel like the karts aren't as responsive as they should be?

yes, they do feel a lot less responsive. especially with the wheel. the wheel's fun, but the analog stick feels more precise. and yet, even with that, the kart's don't seem to be as responsive (bikes steer almost too well in comparison on the other hand). but, maybe it was just my character/kart combo. i tend to play the heavier characters.

Waffala said...
The heavier characters might be a factor, but even as Yoshi I still get that same sense that they didn't make the controls as tight as they should have been. It probably has something to do with having to compensate for people oversteering on the wii wheel, but I'd think the game would recognize your control scheme and tweak the handling so everything runs smoothly. I guess I'll have to try playing around more with bikes, good to know someone else noticed this though.

Wario Mine is a really good. Hey does anyone know if you can do tricks when you are playing with the GC or Classic controller. I have tried everything to get it to work. Thanks

Games still come with instruction manuals if I'm not mistaken, how about taking a look there or a few seconds on Google before asking to be spoon fed the information.

Hit any direction on the control pad for both Gamecube and Classic.
4-29-2008 @ 10:40AM
John Rios said...
Yeah, it's easy! When using a Gamecube controller, push up or down on the CONTROL PAD whilst in the air. I know, I never think to use that crappy little pad either.

thanks man that helps out a lot. I thought I tried that last night after i switched to using it over the Wii Wheel.

Gewurztraminer says: R.O.B. is the last Cylon! said...
If you try to do the trick mid-air, it won't work. you have to get it in right before or as you leave a ramp.
@ECG - I have resorted to asking questions here as well (e.g. how to MOVE a channel in the Wii menu). Never hurts to ask. Besides, with in-game tutorials on practically everything these days, some instruction manuals seem like a waste of paper. And on that note, if you pause mid-race with a GCN controller it displays what the buttons do, yet the trick command IS left out.

I haven't unlocked everything, yet. I was too busy playing multiplayer with my friend, Paul, on release day. While I am on the subject it really ticks me off that there isn't a co-op Grand Prix anymore. Anyway...on topic...I really like Mushroom Gorge and Coconut Mall.

What are you talking about? DK summit is FUN! I thought I'd hate having to use the half-pipe, but it's a blast! I'm also mental for the mall (SO MANY ROUTES!) and the Wario's Goldmine for the fun rollercoaster-esque drops!

personally , i think the mall is only so-so. i dont get the big hooha about that track.
I LOVE the maple forest one though, no one seems to mention that.. but it's great! DK summit, moonlight highway, Funky's battle zone, and definitely the new rainbow road are all favorites. I love the new bowser course too.
actually, i like most of the new tracks. the most boring tracks seem to be the older ones. however, a few are nice like some of the snes recreates (even though it's just not the same..) and the DS upgraded levels like Delphino Square.
I just started 100CC with the bikes last night... absolutely loving it.

Some notables for me:
Coconut Mall - Lots of fun little jumps and great Mii integration (I totally wrecked when I saw a clothing ad with my Ron Jeremy Mii on it).
SNES Ghost House - Classic and you can slide through the entire track.
Wii Bowser's Castle - Love the fireball half-pipe.
Wii Rainbow Road - I think it's probably the hardest one yet (and why isn't there a Rainbow Cup with all Rainbow Road tracks?)

The game lists in the statistics thing (under the license) that my favourite track is Coconut Mall BUT I simply am in awe at the new Rainbow Road. That place is absolutely stunning. I love how much they took from Mario Galaxy for its design.
But all-in-all, the new tracks are brilliant.

I've really been blown away by a lot of the new tracks. I think this iteration of Rainbow Road is the best, and agree with jaredgood1 that a Rainbow cup consisting of previous Rainbow Roads would have been really cool.
I really can't pick one. Hell, I can't even pick a couple...I'm happy with all of them.

Every track has a good vote for me. I think Coconut Mall is a favorite but i do like bouncing off those mushrooms in Muchroom Gorge.
I am still on edge about the wheel though...i might try playing some with the nunchuck and remote and see how that does. Anyone else using the Nuncheck+Remote after trying the wheel?

I tried the Remote/Nunchuck combo last night...and I like it! It seems to be a little more sensitive than the wheel alone. (although I do like using the wheel...a lot).
My favorite tracks so far are Coconut Mall and Mushroom Gorge from the new batch, and Delfino Square from the retro group.
I miss Baby Park though...so manic!
