Hey, you sitting there reading this, buy No More Heroes already!
Whatever your excuse for not opening up the Amazon page right now and ordering the game, know this: it isn't a good enough reason. We're serious about this; if you don't own the game and read our site, we're going to call your parental units and rat you out. That's how serious we are about you needing to buy, and play, this game. Especially when it's this cheap.
[Thanks, Steven! You're a kind and wonderful person!]

You mean spending my last $40 on Okami isn't a good enough reason?

That main character guy has his wrist turned 90 degrees to the right in that 4th gallery picture..
That looks painful.
Anyway.. GTAIV wins over this. Sorry No More Heroes dude.. Wii Exclusivity only works for Nintendo.

All the Weblogs, Inc. sites do this. I have no idea why, other than trying to boost their Pagerank. Though linking to actual articles is far more useful than the usual tactic of linking to keywords.

No More Heroes is kind of like GTA. But, with much cooler characters. And lightsabers. And an awesome bike that shoots fire. And incredible over-the-top violence. And Travis Touchdown.

@ Hinkle: NMH also mocks GTA and its violence. And I have to admit that I'm less interested in GTA IV because of it.

Well, I'm not trying to put down GTA IV. There is certainly a big appeal to that game, with the online stuff and the whole GTA way of doing things. What I'm trying to do is emphasize that No More Heroes needs to be in every Wii owner's library. Seriously.

I think I must be the only reader of this site that was rather disappointed by NMH. I rented it through Gamefly shortly after it came out, after my bro-in-law recommended it. After defeating the first three assassins, I just found myself asking, "Why?" There was no interesting gameplay - just move around and swish. While the stylized graphics look great in still frames, they don't work well in motion. The tongue-in-cheek-ness was funny at first, but going to the bathroom is only entertaining so many times.
Something I found really annoying was that it claimed to be a game that was made exclusively for the Wii, but there was nothing about it to me that really supported that. The menus were all driven by the joystick/D-pad, the swinging of the Wiimote had little effect on the gameplay (we could just as easily have pushed a button), and the whole thing just felt cobbled together from a project that was started for another system.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of third party "exclusive" games (yay Zack and Wiki!) - I just found NMH to be a crappy example of such.

Sadly, and as much as I don't want to, I have to agree with you. I also bought the game (at full price) and was hoping for a great gaming experience but I was let down. It got repetitive and the camera KILLED it for me.
I will disagree on one point though and that is the controls. I thought they were pretty good, and definitely added to the game. Slicing off heads / arms isn't a fun when just pressing a button. IMHO they felt very satisfying.
I do think that everyone should try out the game though, because they might enjoy it and at $30 it's a pretty damn good deal.

I've been trying to convince my high-school friends to buy it, those who have a Wii but just by casual games for it (not that they aren't in the target demo, i'm speaking of seniors)
No hits so far, but i'm going to show it at a party someday soon, to see if i can't get a favorable response

Here's a reason: I'm tired of the gaming community's idea of "mature" content being extremely immature, macho BS seemingly aimed at teenagers and insecure adult men. It bothers me, in film, television, music, or wherever, when the target audiences for "mature audiences only" are clearly adolescent males. This was Gamefly rental, in light of all the hype surrounding it, made me sad. You have no idea how much I want 3rd party content on the Wii to succeed, and be great, how much I want video games to be great. Games like No More Heroes pull us as a gaming community down--if this is our "best content," then video games will never be appreciated as art any more than Uwe Boll is appreciated as a great filmmaker.

I understand your argument, and I've made similar points in the past, but I really don't think this applies to No More Heroes.
Travis is supposed to be a base, narcissistic, immature boy-man. He's a gross exaggeration of what is typical of everything that symbolises "mature" gaming today. It's so over the top. At times it comes close to being a parody. In fact, that is what I think the game is: a parody.
If I remember correctly, Travis starts out confident in his belief that being the number one killer in the world is his most important objective. But as the game goes by, he starts to realise the pointlessness of his actions, you know.
The story isn't that deep - as was my initial thoughts while playing - but it's not base, and certainly not without a purpose. Maybe you should play the game again. You might get a different perspective. Or maybe you shouldn't. I don't know.

Hmm, I may get it after all. The game looked pretty lame to me, with an odd mash-up of visual styles. Glowing reviews are the only thing that made me slightly interested in it, but I really need to try it to see if everyone's just excited because it's different or if it's actually good.

It was not good. I don't understand all the rave reviews. The world is not as free roaming as we were promised. everything takes place in 3 locations. all the hidden items are lame and the unlockables are boring. There is no interactive environment. The bike crashes into the sprite cars way outside the visual representation of them. also the side quests are annoyingly hard since you cant get hit at all playing them and they really don't matter. I was expecting a GTA style world with people and cars all over. You can't even whip out your sword and slice up a civilian.
The story was alright, and the visuals were pretty good, but the game play got boring. There were no real moves to learn, and fighting became button mashing. I bought it the week it came out, beat it and sold it back as soon as I could. It was too easy on hard, then I was already bored with it to play it through on ultimate or whatever they called it.
this game was mediocre at best.

I'd buy it but I'm in Australia, and the Wii is region locked.
your games are 50$ full price? my god, its $100 in the stores here!
Seeing as AUD is almost = to USD, whats with the 100% markup? no way it costs the price of the game to ship it over here...
and people wonder why us aussies feel so short changed. I guess the Europeans feel the same too.
