What about you? Do you tend to play games until the bitter end? Or, will you often toss a game aside before you beat it?

There's only one game I didn't play till the very end (I just can't stand Phoenix Wright for some reason). I'll always beat a game before I even let myself buy a new one. I feel like its a waste to not see the end. If I really loved a game and have the time, I'll go back and try to unlock everything. Usually, though, I'll beat it once and go on to the next one on my list.

hah... No, the last game I came close to finishing was Metroid Prime 3, then Team Fortress 2 came out and screwed that up :P
I'm trying to stick to those "rainy day" games these days. The ones that you can just pick up, play for a bit, and call it good... Mario Kart, Smash Bros, etc.

I'm in the same boat. The last game I "finished" was probably Dragon Quest VIII. Or Kingdom Hearts 2. Whichever came out after the other.
But yeah, lately, I play a little bit of Brawl here, some Mario Kart there, a couple VC titles, and Guitar Hero. All of which never really "end".

Man, NOBODY finished Medal of Honor Heroes 2. It had a good multiplayer experience, but the single player was a piece of crap!
As for finishing games, it depends. If it has a really great singleplayer (like Corruption, Galaxy, CoD4, etc.) Then I'll beat it. but most of the time I'll pick up a game, play it for an hour or so, and then leave it. So Brawl, MKWii, CoD4 multiplayer, etc. work best for me.

Tell me about it, I got to this one part when you come out of the sewers and I just stood in one place for 10 minutes killing guys then when I would move I would die. Are there unlimited enemies or what? I must have killed hundreds of Nazi's not making any progress at all.

I am at the end of MOHH2, but I can't finish it. You have to fend off tons of enemies while you wait for these stupid doors to lower, all while having a time limit, and it's just stupid. I had no problem up to that point, though.

I might have to take a rainy day and try to do that sometime...

I know these games aren't on the Wii... but Advance Wars Dark Conflict (Days of Ruin) and The World Ends With You are two examples of this. I left the latter for 2 whole days, before trying and failing and the former... left for a week at least before trying again, only to switch off because I got fed up.

Oh yeah... Metroid Prime 3... another great title to add to my list of uncompleted games. In my case I got stuck at that bit with the three levers you need to pull and the two flying baddies that keep resetting them. No way am I ever going to get past that... I can barely keep two levers set. A real shame because I was SO enjoying that game.

Very interesting question.
Nope - I barely ever finish a game. And people complain that games are getting shorter these days! Thinking back, I think the last two I finished were PSP: God of War and PSP: Untold Legends. Very interesting that they were both handheld... I wonder if that says something about the ability to just pick it up and game in those spare 5 minutes that scatter themselves across your day.
Haven't finished Twilight Princess, Resident Evil, even Super Mario Galaxy. Not through lack of enjoyment but more through distraction. Although I've been enjoying SMG so much I'm kinda rationing my play to spin it out for longer.
I got to within an inch of finishing Half Life 2... but then I had to rebuild my PC and lost my save games. Playing through a second time was fun... then the same thing happened again and I lost interest.

I must admit I don't finish all my games due to other purchases. I always says to myself I'll finish it, but it takes a long time to come around. Currently unfinished, Metroid 3, Zelda and No More Heroes. Currently playing Okami and Brawl. In my defence, in each game I have not finished I'm actually at the final boss, final battle/mission whatever you want to call it so meh... maybe this weekend ;)

I often have a backlog of at least five games I haven't finished. Right now, I've got four on the Wii and six on the 360 that I've played and started but haven't completed. My saving grace is that I refuse to buy a new console for the next-generation until I have completed all of my current gen games. At least that way my backlog is relatively current. I've heard of people who still haven't completed some of their SNES games!

It depends on the game, upcoming releases and my schedule. I try to finish games, but often I just don't have time or have other more important things to do. So I would guess on the Wii I've completed about 50% of the game I've bought if you exclude the multiple games that have come out /I've bought in the last two months.

Really, it depends on the game. Some games which keep things interesting right up until the end, like Metroid Prime 1 and 3, Zelda: TP, RE4, and tons of other games, I finish because I enjoy it. MP2 got pretty repetitive, you just keep going back to the dark world, find more little crystals or whatever they were, and then finally go fight the boss. I finished it just to see what the final boss would be, but I really didn't like finishing it, after beating the boss of the sanctuary, it became more of a chore.
Games like Tales of Symphonia and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass got pretty repetitive and unclimatic near the end, I never finished Tales, and don't plan on it, and everytime I'm on a trip or something, I play Zelda:PH and get a little closer to the end. Almost all other games that I buy I finish, and if I really liked it (like with Windwaker, Metroid Prime, RE4, GTA: San Andreas, and the Metal Gear Solid series, I play over and over again after beating it to see what I missed and try to do things differently and just see everything again and what not. But games that became chores to beat like MP2 and 3 and Zelda:TP, I didn't really want to go through all the slow, boring parts again, so I generally play through them only once. I tried playing through MP2 and TP again, but about halfway through, the tedious little repetitive tasks you have to do that aren't fun make me lose interest.
There are a lot of classic and new games that I play through usually once every year. Since they came out, I've played through Super Metroid, Zelda: Oracle of Ages, The Windwaker, and Pokemon Silver usually at least once a year. There will be some time when I have a lot of free time and nothing too exciting to do, and so I'll play through those games in my spare time. I can beat Super Metroid in one sitting by now though, so usually just if I have nothing to do for a few hours and am bored, I'll try to get my SNES working. Games like those where there isn't a single dull moment and every part is just as exciting and fun as the part before it I consider masterpieces. A game could be ridiculously long and detailed, but still be boring and a chore to play through. But those 4, I love playing them so much that I almost always play through them at least once a year.
And for those curious as to why I see Windwaker as exciting (because everybody hates the sailing), I live on Lake Ontario and about 15 miles from the St Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands, my parents have a yacht, and boating has just always been a part of my life, so being able to do some fairly realistic sailing in such a huge body of water is pretty fun to me. All the islands and the submarines and enemy watchtowers and rafts that you come across while on the sea is just fun and exciting to me.

Good question, I usually finish games while my wife never does. I had to nag her a bit to finish Twilight Princess. I never finished Red Steel because I got so tired of having to sword fight every 5 minutes. And I haven't finished Prime 2 because I got lost and pretty much needed to restart from the beginning.

I almost finished MP3:C but Ive already seen the end on Youtube, so I count it as finished cause I dont really have the patience to try and beat the Aurora Unit.
I completed Warioware: Smooth Moves.
Almost completed SMG, but I can't beat the Luigi Purple Coin challenge(run around on a dissapering Luigi in the Toy Box level)as Mario.
Excite Truck, haven't unlocked everything, but Mario Kart will substitute for it.
Almost done with Rayman:RR1.
MoH:H2 only good for its online.
Kinda...left Zack&Wiki and haven't touched it(think I left off at the Ice level boss).
SSBB, I got all characters but not like, every trophy, etc.
Mario Kart Wii, only been out for a week! :P I unlocked Funky Kong last night(get 4 fast staff ghosts) Im still trying to beat the 150cc courses which Im halfway finished with them.

Due to the Luigi Purple Coin stage I just stopped playing SMG. Even if I could get all but that one, I still wouldn't get to play as Luigi, so why bother? I mean, I love the green guy, but I don't have *that* much time and patience.
The GH3/Brawl/Kart triple threat also ensured I wouldn't be back to Galaxy for some time.
Let alone the unfinished LoZ:TP and Super Paper Mario...
(or the unstarted, unopened Z&W and Okami...)

Glad to see that I'm not the only one that doesn't finish games! I've felt ashamed of myself for so long, and as I see now I have; I am in the norm. I have to play a game non-stop every day to finish it. I did finish Army of Two. I need to complete Mario Galaxy, but I have finished Metroid 3 and Twilight Princess. I understand Jon your feelings about the pirates who reset the switches, they were a beast! Harder than the end boss!

Thanks for your words of support! I was really surprised to see such a sudden leap in difficulty - major Nintendo titles are usually much better balanced than that.
Knowing that I'm not just stupid and that I'm not going to find the rest of the game impossible, I might give it another try. Either that or set my resident 16 year old on the task with the promise of pizza if he can get past them for me ;-)

I make an effort to finish games, but sometimes frustration kicks in and then FORGET IT. Metroid Prime was great, but the last boss was so frustrating that I just looked up the ending on youtube. I've beaten and unlocked all in SMG, RE4, No More Heroes, but have purposely held off on even opening Metroid Prime 3 & Zelda TP. Then again I came into owning Metroid Prime 2 and Zelda Wind Waker and I feel that I have to beat those first before playing the Wii variety.

Mainly because I'm usually exploring every single thing and option that I never really get to finish the storyline.

I think the only game I ever beat 100% was PokeMon Blue, every other game I get too distracted with other things I need to do and eventually forget that I was playing them regularly and will buy a whole new game to play, right now even after getting Mario Kart less than a week ago, I really want to go buy Okami or No More Heroes, when I still haven't unlocked anything in MK (the online mode takes up most of my time) I still need to beat Super Mario Galaxies, Metroid Prime 3, Resident Evil 4, A ton of things to unlock on Brawl, Zelda TP (bought and haven't played more than an hour of that), Zelda Phantom Hourglass, Advance Wars, New Super Mario Bros, I still have one cup left to beat on 150cc on Mario Kart DS and then go back and get star ranks, Metal Gear Solid 3 before MGS4 comes out, Pixel Junk Monsters, and more that I can't think of, so yeah, I'm trying to not buy anything new this summer besides MGS4, which will be tough.

I do complete all my games though, and repeated them numerous times. I know I beat Super Mario 64 like 5 times (with 120 stars) and I've beaten Paper Mario 64 like 6 times. I've also I beat Metroid Fusion at least 3 times, and I've played Twilight Princess 3 times as well.

The reason I havent beaten more is because I have so many freaking games to play right now... so it's going to take me a while. Was going to play okami more but mario kart just ruined that. :D
But anyways it isn't really about beating the game, it's about having fun during the ride, aye?

I wish I could say that I finish every game, but it is a matter of saturation. Before I got my first job, I had only a few games which I would play and replay with all my spare time. Since I got a steady income, I purchase games faster than I can process them. Couple this with a collector mentality and I find myself purchasing games to add to my collection in case they become difficult to find in the future. Emulation of older systems compiles the problems exponentially.
Of course, I then follow-up with the line of thought that if I have a problem of too much entertainment to consume in my spare time, then I must be doing pretty good for myself. Time to go check CheapAssGamer for some deals. :-)

I did that with Wind Waker when it got to the part to collect all the triforce pieces. The only game this method hasn't worked on is Viewtiful Joe. I CAN'T for the love me beat Ultra V-rated mode to get Captain Blue.:(
