There's a big game coming for the Wii this holiday -- we know this because Reggie said so -- and IGN's Matt
So there you go -- can't say we're hugely surprised to hear of Pit's return, but that doesn't mean we're looking forward to it any less. Casamassina refused to reveal who was behind it, but we hear the folks at Retro are currently kicking back and taking a break from the Metroid universe ... *
* Wanton speculation.

Never completed it though.

I got your back on this one Tim. I'm all about some good ol' KI action! This 29 year old here really enjoyed the original, time and time again.

Yeah, I'm 28, and with each new Nintendo system I've wondered why the Big N hadn't yet revived and reinvented this series. If this is true it will be a must-own for me.

30 year old guy here too. I loved Kid Icarus on NES. My brothers and I used to play it for hours. We all got together to play it on the Virtual Console. So fun.
It is a challenging game, but it gets a lot easier after the first couple levels.

I am excited, and I'm only 26... But I'm confused - is this gonna be a prequel? Pit died after I beat the game all those years ago... (Speaking of the GameBoy sequel.)

He mentions Kid Icarus nearly every podcast. I wonder how they'll sell it, another third person adventure doesn't really excite me.

A couple of months ago it was rumored that Factor 5 was working on Kid Icarus, and Matt has nearly said as much in the podcast.

I got KI for the VC, and, aside from the fact that I CAN'T BEAT IT, it's pretty fun.
Now, I have three different responses depending on how this goes.
Kid Icarus Wii being developed by Nintendo or Retro:
HELLZ ------> THE YES
" developed by Factor 5: H...hooray?
" developed by Platinum Games (a.k.a. Seeds, formerly Clover):
God's existence has been proven, world peace a reality, and collective happiness creates a beam of pure joy which destroys two of Jupiter's moons

Platinum Games developing a Kid Icarus sequel...that would be...so...so so so awesome. I don't think I can put it into words, for such words do not yet exist to describe such awesomeness.

Any of those three would do an amazing job, and you know it.
That being said, I'm sure it's Factor5, based on Cassamassina's comments. They did Lair, and sure it wasn't great, but they also pulled off some of, if not the, prettiest graphics on a Nintendo console, ever. And that was when the GameCube launched... Great graphics aren't everything, but at this point, at least it's something.

I mean, it's Nintendo. They won't fuck it up, but will it blow us away?

If it is developed by Nintendo that it is almost bound to be at worst decent. If it is made by a 3rd party that may even be better due to the fact that we need a good strong 3rd party support. If others see that a 3rd party game (not a party, mini game fiasco, mind you) can sell on the wii then hopefully it will lead to more exclusive content for the big N

Has there been any rumors of it being made by PlatinumGames or are you just saying it would be awesome? (It would be) But as awesome as that would be I'd still like to see it being made by Retro.

I went to n4g.com and the article was talking about the rumored story line where Pit "Is cursed for a thousand years for a crime and is now a kind of fallen angel". hhhmmm, that doesn't quite sound like a nintendo storyline to me, to dark methinks. it also said they were leaning to an "adult Pit".
I would think the game would more in the style of a Zelda game.

The thing is though, if IGN was actually told a new Kid Icarus is in development, they wouldn't be able to say a word about it. This is just speculation (but I hope it comes true).

You shame me horribly. I mean, it's Kid Icarus. This is like when they revived Metroid on the GCN.
I have been hearing that Nintendo has a few surprises for its late 2008 lineup, though, so if this really doesn't excite you at all, there may be more... read the responses to letters in the latest Nintendo Power, they say they know a few titles that Nintendo isn't letting them reveal yet (hopefully Animal Crossing, Kirby, and maybe even Donkey Kong? Who am I kidding, I'm dreaming). Still, any Kid Icarus game would rock, and knowing how much games have softened up by now, it would not nearly be as punishing.
