Talk about cool DS and Wii integration over at DSF got us thinking about the Channel line-up on the Wii right now, game-specific and just those released by Nintendo for our pleasure. Some of the Channels we're all about, yet some just kind of sit there, on the Nintendo servers. Frankly, we refuse to download them because of how useless they are.So who knows better than you, the fans, right? We want to hear your ideas for some cool Channels that can be implemented into the Wii. Anything is fair game here, from the ridiculous to the realistic. Lay it on us!

The Wii Voice Chat Channel.
It could run in the background and you could access it during a game with the home button to add/remove people you are chatting to, edit settings, etc., thereby retroactively giving all online games voice chat.
I don't think it is possible, but one can dream.

RSS and DVD channel I could definitely get behind. But youtube already works great in the browser. I'd rather not have a separate channel for it.
Regarding the main article:
"we refuse to download them because of how useless they are."
Hey, Check Mii Out is my wife's favorite thing to do on the Wii.

For the DVD channel, they'd just make "Disc Channel 2.0" and add a DVD next to the Wii&GC discs.

I think you'll get a lot of calls for the DVD playback channel today...and I'll add my voice to that desire.
Also, a MyMedia Channel that would allow you to access and stream media from your PC (or Mac) would be awesome.
I like the above ideas for the voice chat channel and the Netflix Instant Viewing Channel both would be killer.
Additionally, my pie-in-the-sky idea is for d Dedicated Game Demo channel that downloaded demos to RAM. It would definitely force companies to be creative about space, but I'm not asking for full blown game levels, just a feel for what it is like. Incidently, WiiWare games would also be represented on this channel (and a lot more feasible).

Get ORB for your computer. It's exactly what you're asking for.
I agree that a Voice Chat channel would be pretty cool. I'd really like to see Nintendo use the recommendation option in Nintendo Channel and make it public.
I really want to have the ability to see if any of my friends are playing Wii, (like SmashBros. friend code list or a WOW guild list) but add chat so you're able to decide what game to play together online.
As long as devs keep making DS to Wii connectivity, I'm sure I'll be buying. GBA to GC was one of the biggest interests for me last generation.

I've got Orb and use it some, but it has serious limitations such as resolution and interactivity...not to mention the fact that it has to run through the internet channel...I want something dedicated and with lots o' bells and whistles...

I'll third (fourth...fifth...etc...) the DVD Playback Channel, and I like the idea of Tesche's "MyMedia Channel"...especially as Orb (i.e. streaming content from your PC to your Wii through the Internet Channel) isn't functional on Linux.
Otherwise, the Nintendo Channel already brings some demos to the table, but only for DS games... The trailers are a good idea, but I would like to see some way of getting Wii demos, if not _at_least_ WiiWare demos, incorporated.

I still think that a Game Boy Channel should be released to accompany a USB device that reads GB/GBA cartridges. That's the last good Nintendo system that hasn't been represented by the Wii! Plus, I don't have anything that'll play my old GB games anymore... *sob*
An actual television channel would be cool, too. It could stream actual TV to the Wii. I would call it the TiiVii Channel. Haha.

How about a channel that spits out the food you make in cooking mama, at the very least put a cup holder on there. The one on my PS2 broke.

I too throw my lot in for a DVD Channel, but i also like the idea of Wii demos. Much like the DS downloads through Nintendo Channel, you could download them straight-to-RAM for a one-time use
Wouldn't be as convenient as the other guys' system of demo ownership, but it would certainly be possible.

I would prefer to see the following.
1: A Social Networking channel
If you going to have friends codes, allow people to meet others thru their Wiis and read their profiles, game likes and such. Also be able to share acheivements like become Pro in Wii Sports or finding that hard to reach star in SMG
2. Wii Demo Channel
I think will either sell more WiiWare or VC or not sell more. It will allow those to try before buying If space is a factor, then just do like the DS with its demos, you lose the demo when you cut it off.
3. Voice Chat Channel
I would like to be able to talk to someone when I play BWii. Battles would be so much easier.

I want a Nintendo Wii Fanboy channel! This way I can keep up with all the latest news on nintendowiifanboy.com and read all the funny David Hinkle postings!
Okay, I'm pandering... But I do sometimes check this web site using my Wii Opera browser. Imagine if channels could be independently produced in the same way that dashboard widgets can be created? On the down side there would be a lot of crap, but on the plus side you could see good ones from sites like You Tube (as mentioned above) producing them.

I would like a channel to play Virtual console games online! It could show what games people are playing in some type of lobby form, and if you dont have the game someone is playing you could download it. If your in the game and someone wants to play but doesnt have the game, you could have the option to give it to them as a gift!...Its nice to dream...I guess no Bomberman 64 online...*cries silently*

Count me in for the DVD and Media channels. I'd also appreciate being able to pop a disk with DivX files (or perhaps attach a USB drive?) and watch those. Streaming from the local PC would be awesome, but I realize that requires hardware.
How about an updated Opera channel with support for the latest versions of Flash that so many video sites seem to use now?
I have to admit that so far I'm not impressed by the channel selection - "Everybody Votes", "Check Mii Out" - you can keep 'em. Even the demos they have are kind of lame as a channel. Bring us something that's actually useful. Let us watch video on our Wii's. Help us to more easily interact with other people. Don't give us another toy channel that will only be used by people who are really, really bored.

latest version of flash not being on the Wii (or PS3 / PSP / DS) isn't Nintendo's/Sony's fault. All adobe. Infuriating situation for anyone close the the situation. absolutely infuriating.

I guess I'm in a minority, because I really like the Check Mii Out channel. I've spent hours sifting through Miis looking for my favorite pop-culture icons to populate my Mii Channel. Now, Everybody Votes, there's a useless channel for ya.
Anyway I'd of course like to see an updated Opera browser, but I think it would be cool to be able to download channels made by different sites that provide their services. How about an Everybody Diggs channel with functionality made specifically for the Wii?
And of course there's the obligatory vote for the DVD channel.

Officially supported Homebrew Channel.
Also it would be kind of neat to have a channel that showed your Wii Friends and what games they were playing, being able to invite them to play another game, etc.
I think the Xbox 360 has that functionality.
Of course, I only have 4 people registered on my Wii... I need more friends. :-(

They should have a Historii Channel in which a virtual console game is available for a limited time (a week, month, whatever). Along with the game it could be accompanied by media and articles describing the development, content, and significance of the title. I think it'd be a good way to introduce/contextualize classic games for an unfamiliar audience, and maybe get some bloggers some work? :)
Also a Challenge Channel that would present challenges (speed running, highscores, etc.) that you could enter if you already had the matching VC or Wii game. Give out Wii points to the winners.

I completely agree with N4NOT3CH, a Voice Chat Channel should be added and you should be able to jump to it via-Wi-fi game and change voice chat settings on the Wi-fi game by pressing HOME.
An updated Disc Channel with DVD movie functionality needs to come.
A Friend Code Channel should come also. Why can we have a MK Channel that lets us check up on our friends when we can have a FC Channel that works for all Wi-fi games?
Bring the TV Guide Channel to America with a service plan to Cox or DirecTV so I can get TV shows for cheap on my Wii.
The Wii Message Board should be updated to have regular posts and special announcements. You write a Special Announcement and your Wii turns blue(regular glow, not the one that if used for every message)at the time you set.(My Wii turns blue at 6:50 PM every Thursday?)
Also, give the Internet Channel Flash 8...its ridiculous not being able to see the new Zero Punctuation or GameTrailers video on the Internet Channel(especially since Wii Fanboy links to GT videos so much( :P ) and the Internet Channel is the only internet provider I have that is always there)(I use IC since my computer broke a while ago)
