When we told you about the $25 GameCubes at Target, many of you fine readers wanted to buy the system and then chuck it, keeping only the controller. Now, it seems like you won't have to go through all that trouble.Amazon is selling GameCube controllers for $5 less than the MSRP, meaning that you can nab one for $20. Clearly getting an entire system for $25 is a better deal, but if your local Target isn't hosting such a delectable clearance, it's hard to pass up a $20 controller. We only wish they were Wavebirds, but we guess that beggars can't be choosers.

Hmm. Last I checked, GameStop are still selling no-name Wavebird equivalents for $20. (They're MadCatz wireless controllers rebranded with GameStop's name.)
OK, so they aren't real genuine Wavebirds, but they're perfectly serviceable...

I saw that same controller at Wal-Mart yesterday for $20 bucks. I thought about picking it up, but I was already buying enough crap.

OK, I just bought the Wii Fit bundle on Target.com over the weekend, so forgive me for being a total Wii Noob (haven't owned anything by Nintendo since the NES)...
What are the advantages/disadvantages for this controller over the classic Wii controller (not the Wiimote)?

Advantages
You can play Gamecube games on your Wii with it.
You can play Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart Wii much like their older Gamecube brothers
No batteries (Unless using the Wavebird)
Disadvantages
Not Wireless (Unless you use the Wavebird)
Not perfectly mapped to some Virtual Console games.
Things sticking out of the Wii make it look not as pretty. (Not a problem for me, but I can understand for some)

So you need this controller to play GameCube games? Isn't that kinda defeating the purpose of having a Virtual Console with games from different systems?

Game Cube games are not on the Virtual Console.
Instead, it is able to play Gamecube discs, but you need controllers for it.
My controllers are messed up right now anyways, so I need to get a new one.
