Sure we've had football, baseball, soccer, and even tennis grace our precious white consoles, but hockey has been sorely missing from the group -- unless you count Ice Hockey and Kidz Sports Ice Hockey, which we don't. Finally, 2K Sports has stepped up and is bringing NHL 2K9 to the Wii. We don't know much about the game, except that it's coming, which is enough for us at the moment. Oh, and it will utilize the Wii's motion controls, in case you had any doubts.

Being UK based, I've no reason to be excited for this. I guess it's nice to see 2K ramp up their Wii support though.

It's about time somebody put an NHL game on the Wii. Although i wish it was EA doing that.

I hope they are smart enough to copy PES Soccer's IR controls like everyones been wanting for a hockey game.

I've forgotten all about 2K sports since I bought NBA 2K1 for my Dreamcast, which is actually my most recent sports game (as far as ___ball sports go). I enjoy sports, but I find sports video games to be a tedious chore. I was strangely attracted to the news of an eventual revival of Tecmo Bowl for Wii, however.
Some of my friends (who are not "gamers" per say) are diehard hockey and NHL fans, though. I may put down some cash to give us another activity to do together that we can all enjoy, now that the Wii is getting a hockey game that doesn't sound like A JOKE (Kidz Sports...).

Finely! I was quite disappointed last year. I like 2K's Hockey I tend to go back and forth between EA and 2K. Let's hope they do the wii justice.

Finally! I was hoping EASPORTS would step up to the plate, but hell, the franchise was getting lame anyways so I have no heartache with jumping ship to the 2K SPORTS series!

I've waited too long for this news! Now to see about NHL09...
Oh, and I second the complaint about the lack of WG3D on the virtual console.

Awesome.
As a Wii fan and a big hockey fan, I am thrilled by this news. IMO, an NHL hockey game has been the one big thing missing from my Wii experience.
I've been waiting for this for a long time. The old NHL 06 Gamecube disc just wasn't cutting it anymore.

2k makes better games than EA. EA only has them in the franchise modes, gameplay in 2k games is miles ahead though. I played nhl 2k5 a ton on xbox, glad to see these guys putting out good games for wii. Hoping for online play!!! :) :)

SWEET! It would be awesome to use my Miis in the game, but that probably has a 0% chance of happening.
