Australian and European gamers were forced to watch even more wistfully than us as we rejoiced of the news that Nintendo of Japan was planning Super Mario RPG for release this month. Because the game also came out in the U.S., it offered the possibility of a future Virtual Console release. Well, now, in an even more unlikely turn of events, the Australian OFLC has rated the game before the American ESRB!
You may have to wait for the next Hanabi Festival to roll around (because Super Mario RPG never came out in Australia or Europe!), but soon, you could (potentially) be enjoying Square and Nintendo's bizarre isometric RPG. As usual, we must remind you that an OFLC rating is no guarantee of a speedy, or even real, release. However, the news makes it seem even more likely that Super Mario RPG will actually come out worldwide.

Without a doubt this is one of the greatest games for the SNES. I will definitely give it a purchase if it hits the VC, even though I can already play it on my modded xbox or PC through emulators.

I didn't know that this never came out in Europe and Australia. One of my top 5 games of all time, definitely.

It has been released yet in the US or even rated by the ESRB, a required step before any game can be released.

They ought to put it on VC here in the States. One of the best games ever.
Quick question: Has anyone ever gotten the Super Jacket by doing 100 straight Super Jumps? I've yet to hear of a one. Oh wait. I bet you could prolly do it pretty easily with an emulator. Never mind. Poo. My illusion is shattered,
And is it true that they wanted to put Geno in Brawl, or is that just another one of those stupid Brawl Rumors? (I think it is, even though that would have been cool.)

There was a rumor a while back that Square would like to make a sequel on the DS, featuring some Final Fantasy characters. Only a rumor, mind.

What is taking the ESRB so long to rate these games?

VC games being rated by the ESRB/OFLC is meaningless. Look at games like Earthbound; that was rated but has it been released yet? No, it hasn't! Sorry, but games being rated by the OFLC/ESRB promises nothing in my opinion.

Do you think games are rated and then...released immediately?...

For what it's worth, Super Metroid was rated by the ESRB MONTHS before it was finally released on the VC.

I'm fairly certain that his has already been rated E for Everybody. It appeared on the ESRB website a long while ago, and then disappeared from the list.
