The latest update, which rolls the Wii Menu to 3.3, not only kills the Twilight Hack, but also allows you to move a Mii from the Mii Plaza into the Mii Parade directly, thanks to the addition of a handy new icon. You just drag and drop as you normally would.
But, let's get back to the real news here. Nintendo has finally gone ahead and sunk the U.S.S. Homebrew. We're anxious to see how the community is going to take this one.
Update: According to commenters, the update doesn't kill the Homebrew Channel (if it was already installed), so there's still something for you all to have fun with.
Update 2: Looks like Freeloader is affected by this new update, as well. Sad face.
[Thanks, Sonic_13!]

Has some brave homebrewer soul updated yet? I need to know - does this ONLY disable the hack, or will it also fuck with the homebrew channel, installed wads, etc?

I just updated, and twilight hack is now gone. It's a good thing my wad installer and homebrew channels were already installed. To clarify: updating does not interfere with the homebrew channel or wad installer/uninstaller channels.

I just double checked everything. As long as the homebrew channel/wad installer channel was installed before the update, you're all set. The update doesn't interfere with any of the channels.

You will have to eventually update your firmware (assuming you keep buying new games). Firmware updates come not just from the internet, but also come on discs.
As soon as you try to play one of these discs, you will get your firmware updated.

Hey, edit it and tell them it doesn't kill the homebrew channel! (If you already have it installed). The U.S.S. homebrew is not sunk yet!

I bet nintendo purposely leaves out little features like this that should be there in the first place, so that they can fix these homebrew 'problems' in disguised updates. IT'S POSSIBLE!

If they can delete the save from the nand memory, they can delete the homebrew channel too. Maybe they will have a signature for legit channels only in the future. They can probably ban your MAC address from WFC too.

I wasn't too interest in the whole "Homebrew" thing, and never tried to hard to install it. So when it never worked, I didn't care much. But out of curiousity, couldn't someone post the file for the Homebrew channel and install it that way? You know, instead of the Twillight Princess hack?

I can verify that this does not affect the homebrew channel, mine works perfectly. Also, here is a quote from the creator of the homebrew channel's blog:
"Congrats to tmbinc and tehpola for finding a combination of two bugs in the code that Nintendo added that — when combined — allow us to fool their check into ignoring the TP hack. More info will be forthcoming — I still wouldn’t rush to update my system, anyway." (www.hackmii.com)
So looks like the TP hack is safe for now.

I think the most interesting thing that's going to come of this is now knowing how Nintendo intends to attack the TP hack. A lot of people were curious about whether or not it was even possible in the first place. The fact that they didn't sweep out the channel in this bug is symptomatic of one of two things: 1) they're rushing or 2) with their current code setup, they were only able to find one solution that didn't require a major coding overhaul.
The downside now for Nintendo is that they'll have to come up with completely different ways to wipe the hack/channel or this will end up just like iPhone jailbreaking (read: Apple locks them down; hacker community has a fix same day). This will be interesting to watch over the next few months.

Nintendo isn't rushing fixes; rather, they're taking their time in testing, to make sure they don't brick consoles. Analysis of the update shows that the update was finalized March 6th, well before the HBC was released. I'm sure Nintendo has either completed, or is close to completing an update which will remove unauthorized channels, they're just gonna take their time testing to make sure they don't get sued for bricking Wiis.
Also, they've already found out how Nintendo killed the TP hack. The new system menu checks all TP save files for evidence of tampering, and deletes saves that are hacked. I think all it would take to get around this is to find another game with a user-input field which could be over-stuffed to cause a buffer overrun.

Well I guess this means its time for me to ignore all future nintendo updates. Seriously this is the most useless update ever too. At least include something worthwhile like a browser with functioning flash or something... anything other than a Mii update. I moved my Mii channel along with my Picture channel to the final page because they are absolutely useless.

The Mii update is just a way of Nintendo to mask the direct hit they are making to the TP.
Still, i put my money that on this week there will be a new hack to run homebrew without the homebrew channel

This doesn't effect me that much, if I want to go homebrewn, I'd rather risk the gamecube instead. Less chance of screwing something up. Either that or choose not to update the wii.

I'm glad Nintendo has done this and cant wait for them to block the homebrew channel. Then the homebrew developers can find a way to get this working for everybody and not just hose who own Zelda. I'm not going to buy a game i wont play on just to play tetris!

Definitely NOT UPDATING! If Nintendo is going to pull this nonsense, then I'm just simply not updating. I'd rather have a console that I can run my own code on (seeing as it is MY property, I own the hardware). As long as I'm not running emulators or copied software, what is hurting Nintendo from people running Linux and Wii MP3 players? Those are two things that people want but Nintendo would never make. With homebrew, we may finally get a Media Center channel, but with Nintendo...probably NEVER! Way to go, Nintendo, you just turned your device that could have become a powerful media portal, living room computer, and gaming device back into a plain old gaming device. Have fun blocking future hacks, and have fun convincing your customers to install this nonsense.
