According to an article over at Gamepro, core gamers shouldn't fret going into E3 this year. Even though Nintendo just unleashed Wii Fit on us, the focus for their newest console isn't going to be entirely casual. "We recently announced the upcoming release of Mario Super Sluggers," said Marc Franklin, director of public relations at Nintendo, to Gamepro. "Additionally, we will be announcing several new titles that core gamers will be interested in around the time of E3."
This is likely to be music to the ears of fanboys who've wondered where stellar-looking titles such as Disaster: Day of Crisis have been for their beloved console. But, this goes against what Reggie said, in a good way. Where the resident ass-kicker, name-taker said we should expect one big title from Nintendo at E3, we're liking the idea of "several new titles" that Franklin said. Let's hope we get a bunch of new games next month when the show goes down!

With rumors of certain games being announced (combined with a few hard core games that we already knew about), it seemed like this year's E3 was going to be directed towards the hardcore gamer.
It's great to have confirmation. I CANNOT wait for E3!

Trying to keep my hopes pretty low for now.
Has WarioLand: Shake Dimension been officially anounced in the US? That could be one of the titles.

I agree... my hopes are low.
Cuz Nintendo might think a "core gamer" want Imagine: BabieZ for the Wii.
You never know. Imagine they announce a super secret new Wii Zelda!!! That would be sweeeeeet.

On a side note, it would be really cool if we could watch the E3 keynote live through the Nintendo Channel.
I'm guessing that probably won't happen, but I'm sure they will add lots of E3 related videos.

I would hope that E3 shows us some hardcore content, especially since casual gamers don't even know about E3 or what it is. In fact, it should be mostly about hardcore and/or niche gaming every year. Noone needs an event to know about things like Wiifit, my grandmother could probably tell you a thing or two about it as anything aimed at the casual crowd usually has ridiculous amounts of expanded marketing behind it to match. Showcasing such automatic major casual hits is just redundant and pointless. E3 should be the showcase event for the hardcore and the niche game. The mainstream market should stay mainstream. E3 should be for actual gamers and the games that make us so obsessive-compulsive about this industry. Just my $0.02.

The mainstream press is all over E3. Actually its pretty safe to say a huge amount of Wiifit's success is due to the mainstream coverage of its anouncement/demonstration last year is at E3.

Really? Wiifit's success was from E3? Not the constant barrage of comercials about it, or the thousands of post release Wiifit excercise stories about it in the mainstream press, but rather from the few small stories in the mainstream press about a single event (E3) that happened a year ago? Amazing. Now that you mention it, every casual gamer I know is totally suped up about this year's E3 and it's the hardcore gamers that have no idea or interest about it. Ok. What was I thinking?

Wow. I'm still amazed by your fantastic use of sarcasm.
Anyways, you're right. There were WAY too many wiifit commercials. But it was a good idea revealing it at E3, because let's face it - the wii needs something innovative to keep up with sony and microsoft. Wiifit brought about the attention they wanted.
Just as a side note - gaming companies should care about the hardcore gamer, but they don't. They care about their MONEY. The money of casual gamers is worth just as much as the money of fanboys, remember.

An RPG, yes. But don't hold your breath on that Zelda confirmation. It has only been slightly under 2 years since TP.
Though I am hoping for a Zelda game, too...

I'm trying to keep my expectations low. I think they'll still try to find ways to hit both core and casual gamers with the next few titles, akin to Mario Galaxy.
But I'd love to be pleasantly surprised!

New Star Fox ... Done in-house ... A man can dream.
On another note, does anyone else find it tiresome that people keep ending with "Just my two cents", and its many varieties?

I don't really mind people using that expression
But chill a bit, let people express themselves as they wish. You'll age much slower.

My guess is we'll see Animal Crossing, Disaster, a storage solution, Wario Land and, if the rumors are true, Kid Icarus, DKC4 and Retro's Zelda title.

A Zelda title from Retro? That's not happening.
Every console Zelda game has come from Nintendo EAD under the supervision and guidance of Shigeru Miyamoto.
Nintendo isn't going to suddenly let Retro Studios take the reigns.
We'll most likely see something original from Retro or maybe the revival of Kid Icarus since they did so well with the revival of Metroid, but definitely not Zelda.

well, I wouldn't mind if they game Zelda to Retro... maybe we can avoid a "casual" Zelda adventure!!

I'm guessing it'll be that "Wario Shake" game and "The Conduit", and maybe a teaser for "Kid Icarus" (Which later on will end up very closely resembling "Zelda: TP" in more ways than one.)
If there's any more than that (a BIG "if") it'll be one of, or a combination of, the following: Some new VC titles. Animal Crossing (with Mii support, of course). Pikmin 3 (Fingers crossed). Storage solution (Which really *shouldn't* be needed, since the thing's already got an SD slot that they're hardly using -- ooh! I know! A software update that will make better use of the SD card AND destroy the homebrew channel).
I would love to also say "The first REAL Starfox since Starfox 64", but I've long since lost faith in that ever happening.

Sorry, but there hasn't been a real Star Fox since the original. Think back...remember how miserable the tanks in particular were in Star Fox 64?
The original is STILL the best!
Also, why would you want to destroy the Homebrew channel?
I'm going to install is when I get home since Nintendo just borked Freeloader.
...ain't NO ONE stopping me from playing that Haruhi game!

Who said I wanted to destroy the Homebrew Channel? I certainly didn't. But I did imply that *Nintendo* undoubtedly wants to destroy it.
