[Update: the short answer is "Yes, they are!" However, it's the same web magazine they've had in Japan forever. Only the trademark registration is new.]When it became clear that Nintendo's version of Nintendo Power was on the way out, there was a lot of speculation that the magazine would move online, bolstered Reggie Fils-Aime's idea of making Nintendo Power's archives becoming available on the Wii. Of course, instead of the print magazine being replaced by an online resource, it was replaced by ... an almost identical magazine.
Nintendo of Japan seems to have been inspired by the idea, however -- or by I Can Haz Cheezburger. They've registered a trademark for something called "Nintendo Online Magazine" or "N.O.M." Could this be a Wii-based magazine? The Nintendo Channel has already shown that Nintendo is willing to create exclusive video content for the Wii, along with demos. Words would be a natural next step.

I wonder if it will be Opera-Browser compatible. Since some of Nintendo.com's stuff works with Quicktime, a bit of their site isn't
Or they could release a separate form of it in a channel, that would be nice

Sounds sweet, although I hope it doesn't replace the print Nintendo Power. Co-existence would be great.
I would love to see N.O.M. as a Wii Channel, especially if infused with Reggie's idea of Nintendo Power archives.

What is the status of the current print edition of Nintendo Power? I interviewed for a job there in November 2006, and they didn't hire me -- or anyone else, actually. I wonder if that's because they saw the writing on the wall. Did the staff move to NYC? Or was the whole department laid off and the publication outsourced?

The publication was outsourced to Future Publishing.

Thanks. So all the original in-house staff were let go? Interesting... That could've been me!

Actually, a few of the longtime staffers moved with the magazine to Future, including former Editor-in-Chief Scott Pelland, Steve Thomason, and Chris Sheppard.
The newer staff seems to rotate a bit, but in all they do a great job.

NOOO! I liked when you could get a free game with a 1-year subscription. I'm sure I wasn't the only person here that got both Zelda discs.
