I think the best peripheral that should be developed would be a wireless mini-console with its own controller. Then you could simulate sitting and playing a console on your Wii.
I don't know about you, but much of my life has been spent doing this and it has been tremendous fun. Perhaps the ConsoteTM could have little meta-peripheral game cartridges to put in it.

For Madden, you could get a realistic dude's butt, so when you're playing quarterback, it will feel realistic when you stick it under there to hike the ball.

I think you nailed it with the accompanying graphic. An updated power glove with built-in motion sensors, tactile response and speaker (just like in a wiimote). Pointing with a finger is much easier than pointing with a remote, and vibrating technology in the fingertips would provide feedback instantly. We're a lot closer to "Johnny Mnemonic" interfaces than we think.

I think some weird kind of skateboard controller thing got leaked for some "possible Tony Hawk project" a little while ago. Maybe. Either way it could be kinda cool or super lame. And am I the only one thinking Lightsaber? :P Or does that go without saying? Like even a special edition one that looks like a lightsaber handle and everything and has like a detachable blade or something...
